I get really annoyed with red robot jumpers and go out of my way to floor it when it turns green and make a fake attempt to ram the other vehicle.
It may just be the area I drive in but most of the time it's white people who jump the red lights.
I usually get a glare or a middle finger from the other driver even though they are in the wrong.
I wish I could afford to drive an armored vehicle so that I can let them T-bone me.

Fact, and that's not even including the taxi drivers.
I once dated a girl who lisped, she wanted to watch Faith Like Potatoes. 20 minutes in it dawned that we weren't watching a movie about the Elephant Man...

I hate people driving through red robots. Pisses me off everytime I see it. However, having said that, I have also driven through a red robot before. Its not excusable, however, if you ARE going to drive through a red robot, just do it carefully mmmmk? Approach the intersection slowly, look left, right, left, right, and if you see that it's safe to drive, make it quick

The only time I find it acceptable (perhaps not the right word), is when you are in a hurry and in an emergency, and only of you do it slowly and carefully.

In my case, I will only do it if there's an emergency, and depending on the kind of road it is (busy or very quiet).

OK, let's get real here, it's quite easy to go over a red robot by accident.
Case in point, at the bottom of the M3 in CT, at the intersection with Rhodes drive and Newlands ave, going away from Town. You approach this intersection at 60 to 80 and downhill as well. It's quite tricky to stop in time normally, but in winter, it can be almost impossible. I've seen many near misses caused by people slamming on the brakes and nearly being rear-ended. It's happened to me a few times too and at least once I purposely jumped the light as I didn't think the car behind me would be able to stop in time. Also, the road was wet and my car at the time had no ABS, so I would probably have just skidded across anyway.

So ya, I hate red-light jumpers as much as most people, but maybe some of you should get off your high-horses and realise we can all just do as best we can under the circumstances, and sometimes you simply can't stop in time.

I haven't got a problem with that but there are people that actually pull off from a stand still from 20m behind the intersection on a red light and then cross the intersection while the other traffic has to wait while the light is green for them.
If I am forced to wait for 5 seconds on a green light for these idiots I get really pissed off.

No excuse for riding over a red robot.
+1. The delay between the two traffic lights turning (the time when both are red) is set up so that if you are driving the legal speed and the light turns orange, that you have enough time to stop or clear the crossing.
So either you chose to skip the red light, or you are speeding.

I drive a corsa bakkie without ABS and I stop just fine on that interection after doing 80km/h. Maybe your brakes are faulty?

In SA it is fine to refer to a traffic light as a robot. The same as a fag in the UK.

    Howzit guys,

Thanks for all the replies. I don't intended on not paying the fine. I know I was wrong in going through the red robot. and I will pay the fine when it gets here. I was driving through a big intersection I was doing roughly 60km/h cause I know of the permanent camera there and not sure if it's for speed as well as going through a red robot. As I approached it turn orange so I pushed brakes and then realized I wasn't going to stop in time so like a fool I accelerated and *FLASH*

I came across those 2 site while I was looking for a site to pay my fine online, but seems that doesn't support Durban yet.

    Another question I have:

Is the whole "point system" in play in Durban? If so how many points lost for going through a red robot?

Except in Port Elizabeth, where the Orange light is so brief you have to choose between whiplash or hitting red!

    Does fine make it correct?
And of course the "fag" statement is relevant purely based on the fact that I'm a fudgepacker?
    Hmmmm?
