Good question. Currently I just use the dashboard, but as we know it is NOT reliable. So, I would also like to know. Some USSD codes perhaps?

    USSD: *188#

    SMS: 188

I'm using the Mobile Partner software with a Vodafone (Huawei) K3520 modem. I get a blank response using the USSD code, and only occasionally get a response using SMS.

sorry for the noob question but what is USSD ?

    what does it do ?

USSD is used to get info from the mobile network, e.g to check pre-paid balances.

So the most reliable, but laborious, way to check your 8ta balance would be to put the sim in a phone, enter *188# and dial.

On the 8ta dashboard you can go to the USSD tab, select Edit Command then under name write something like Balance and the code write *118# click save. Now you can just select balance in the drop down list everytime and click send, you will receive a sms as usual.

    Nice.

Is there a way to hard cap this promo so that I don't run up OOB bills after 10 gigs?

With Internet 5 Promo, while you are browsing and you have reached your data limit, you will get an “Out of Bundle” notice on your browser.

From here you will have two options (for Internet 5 Promo):
    1. Choose to surf out of Bundle rates (You will be charged R 0.30 per MB)
    2. Purchase a Once-Off Internet Bundle from your credit limit.
