Default where can i buy a 3g usb modem for all networks?

I have a vodacom 3g dongle. I then bought a cell c sim for the chaeper data costs. If you insert another network card the vodacom program says "you have inserted a wrong sim card" or something like that.

What I then did was 2 things. 1st You can insert another sim in the vodacom dongle but close the vodacom software when it starts up. The you can create a dial up connection and use that to connect. Remember to use *99# as the dial up number.

Another option is to download and install "mobile partner" software (Free). Again close all vodacom or cellc or what ever software. Open mobile partner create a new connection again with *99#.

This should get you connected to any network. I upgraded my vodacom dongle's firmware with the mobile partner one. Works beautifully. But firmware upgrading can be dangerous, so try the dial up and mobile partner solutions first using any 3g dongle.

Actually all you have to do is go to device management then select gprs only apply then go back select 3g only and it shows the network doesnt matter the card

Good advice ALL, but no-one's answered the where-to-buy part.
I was also shopping for a modem recently, and came across a store in main reef (jhb) that had good devices at great prices. Eg. Huawei E180, 7.2Mbps. Full support for all networks including cell c's hspa+
I ended up sourcing a second-hand bargain for myself, but PM me if you want the guy's contact details.

Word to the wise - modem should be at least 7.2Mbps-capable IMO

Cheapest deal I'm aware of which comes with a 'free' modem is Vodacom's Internet Starter Pack @ R399. You get a decent modem which can be used across networks as already described, and you can either use or throw away the 12 x 100 MB-a-month which comes with this prepaid deal.
