If your 3G wireless router connects to the internet and your PC and phone connect to your router and get private IP addresses then it is safe to set that private IP range as your Home Network.I'm new to this whole wireless router thing. I've got one set up and connect from my phone via the network to my PC. But for this the network must be set up as a Home Network and not a Public network. Is this safe?
Actually no, Public is the safest, Home is the least safe. That's why you should only set a network that you trust as your Home network.Home is a bit more safe than Public.
There's no point in switching off your SSID broadcast. I agree though, set the wireless to security to WPA2 if possible. Also just remember to switch off you SSID broudcast and set encryprion to WPA2.
The wireless router should be providing firewall and NAT functionality. Depending on your cap and whether you are OOB-shark bait, you may want to consider using a third party firewall such as the free Zone Alarm or Comodo, not so much for their firewalling but for their egress filtering (preventing applications from going onto the internet and downloading at will).I will still recommend a firewall from kaspersky or eset.
