hi all, thought I'd put it here, as its not really a Vodacom or MTN or Cell C issue.... same problem with all the networks.
We use Netasq hardware for VPN connection to the corporate network.
The setup involves a client side software on laptop where u click to "open the tunnel" to connect to the remote network.

When connecting to the internet via a wifi 3G Router, either a router with built in modem, or one where u stick in a USB 3G modem, or one of those old Netgears with the E620 data card modem, it works just fine.... u open the tunnel, and can access the corporate network from home, do remote desktop session to a corporate pc etc.
BUT... if I connect using only a 3G USB modem, the tunnel opens, but it will NOT connect to the network :-(

Its the SAME Voda/MTN/Cell C simcard that works great in the 3G router, so its not the sim or the network that has the issue... can only be the settings on the USB modem, or the dashboard connection software? Cant be the USB modem either, coz the same modem plugged into the router without built in modem also works just fine.

I cannot see any settings changeable on the dashboard software, except for APN or dialup no.... (but the same dialup number and apn is used in the 3G router...)

What is weird is that our guys at headoffice in France use 3G USB modem to test from their side, and it works for them
they tell me to get latest connection software and firmware for the usb modem.... but I've tested with brand new modems from VC, MTN, and Cell C... it has got the latest, looking at the version numbers vs downloadable from the network sites, there is no newer versions.

Anybody have similar experience, or can shed some light on the issue? I would really appreciate!

french colleague in france :-) maintains it must be the USB modem or connection dashboard software that blocks the VPN.... i tried about 6 different model modems, with our 4 different networks :-(

USB modem on their side works... they can connect just fine..... very strange!

It has something to do with routing on your computer. Maybe the easiest way to fix this problem is to find modem which installs network drivers (in addition to the normal modem dialup connection), and enable this network interface. Most of latest modems do include such drivers. It will create similar routing configuration as you communicate with router.

It appears that using the dial-up connection instead of the network connection might be the solution:

Try both.
