    Default Sennheiser HD 202

    Hi guys

Buddy of mine is looking for a pair of Sennheiser HD 202 headphones. I found them on prophecy.co.za, havetohave.co.za and expansys.co.za. What are the differences between Sennheiser HD 202 MK II Professional Headphone (Black) and Sennheiser HD 202 Headphone? The former is a newer model, but costs less. Are they worth the buy? He's not an audiophile. He just wants something that will provide good quality.

    Thanks

Don't know what the difference is between the two, I have the normal 202's. The sound quality is far above anything anywhere near the price range, it's about the same as some of the "gaming" stereo headphones that cost 3 times as much. Google some reviews and you'll see that most people agree on the excellent sound quality but some with big ears find them uncomfortable. Fortunately I'm not an elephant so they're fine for me.

By the way, that price is insane! I bought mine for R230 in a mall.

I think I've paid about R300 for mine a couple of years ago R230 is an awesome price for those headphones! I mean, Prophecy Shop asks about R350 for it, which I thought was already pretty reasonable.
At least the headphones lasted me about 7 years, if not more.

Now I have HD555 & HD465 headphones, and I'll never go back to the HD202's again.

Thanks guys. I have read through reviews but just wanted some local opinions I don't know what the difference is between the two I listed.

Pada, how much better are the HD555 and HD465 headphones?

The HD555's are circum-aural and open, while the HD202's are supra-aural and closed. For noisy environments, get the 202's. They isolate pretty good.

The HD555 is really amazing. It makes the HD202's sound like R25 earphones.

The bass of the HD465 is much deeper than that of the HD555, even with the simple bass mod that I've done on the HD555. It's actually very difficult to tell the difference of the before and after the simple bass mod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvQ8PzBrHXE
Both the HD465 and HD202's bass are boosted a bit, compared to the mid-range and high frequency levels, where as the HD555 is much more natural with a very good frequency response on pretty much all the frequencies.

I would still like to try my HD555's on an amplifier, because I think the bass is just limited by my onboard sound and my Asus Xonar DX?

The HD555 + Asus Xonar DX combination is fantastic for gaming. You really get a very good 3D feeling with the emulated 3D. Since the treble response on the HD555's are much better than the HD465 & HD202's, they're definitely much better suited for gaming.

There are a few things that I don't like about the HD555's, like it feels as if it would break easily if you step on it, unlike the HD202's, which simply fall apart and then you reassemble it again. The HD465 has a much more rugged build, but it doesn't fit nearly as comfortable as the HD202 or HD465's, since its on-ear headphones with no rubber-like cushioning like the other 2. The HD202's are very light and quite comfortable.
The other thing that I dislike about the HD555 is that doesn't have a removable audio cable like the HD465, or like my modified HD202's
The last thing that might be a problem for other people is that the HD555's has almost no noise blocking, so you can hear all the sounds around you when you have the headphones on, and other people can hear what you're listening to.

Another great headset from Sennheiser in the same price range as the HD555 is the HD380 Pro DJ. IMO its fit is even more comfortable than that of the HD555's, and its bass is much better too.
If I had to pick headphones again, I'd rather go for the HD380 Pro DJ, which my brother has at this moment.

I have a set of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones that I bought after reading numerous rave reviews about them. I got a price locally and nearly fell off my chair. I recall they wanted R2,351 for them.

Anyway, I went and looked on ebay and saw one could buy them there for a fraction of the price, so that's what I did. I landed them here for R900 including postage, VAT and a release fee.

The sound is great - however I do find wearing them for any length of time can be extremely tiresome. I find they clamp my ears far too tighly and after a while I simply have to remove them. Lightweight headphones would definately be preferable.

I imported mine (HD202 mkII) through takealot US imports (Amazon) a while back for about R250. Those prices are too steep imo. But the headphones are very impressive for their price range, assuming you don't pay those inflated prices of course. Bass is definitely boosted in the HD202 which is what I was looking for. It is not overwhelming though.

    Good luck man.
