Uniforum are busy moving away from doing the technology themselves. I think the company that's going to provide the EPP software for .africa is the same bunch that is going to do the system for .co.za

Rumor is about a year from now.

If its like .asia there will be an initial period where anyone who can prove a reason for owning a domain (eg microsoft.africa) will be able to apply and get charged sodomy without lube for the privilege. Then there's a sunrise period where everyone else gets to apply (for something 4 or 5 times the usual price and I'm not sure how they resolve multiple people wanting the same domain eg sex.africa (I think its an auction ) and then it will go live at whatever the normal price will be.

These new TLDs are stupid imo. They add little value, open up more cyber squatting opportunities and add unnecessary complexity.
