Default WDS on TP-Link TL-MR3420 - anyone got it working ?

    Hi All

I have a requirement to connect two routers wirelessly. I have done this successfully using Tekom's 400G Billion Router (ADSL) and the Netgear MBRN3000 (3G) router.

I have bought the Cell-C ZTE MF668 3G card which is not supported by the Netgear Router. Based on a suggestion I found on mybroadband I bought the TP-Link TL-MR3420 router which supports and ZTE card and I am able to connect to the 3G network through it.

What I am not able to do is to connect the Billion Router nor the Netgear Router to the TP-Link router via WDS. I have tried everything short of standing on my head. Currently the TP-Link Router shows the WDS connection has a status of "RUN" which I understand means everything is A-OK, but I cannot connect to it / through it from the Netgear Router.

Uniterm Direct (www.dbg.co.za) are less than obliging in helping me resolve this so I am turning to the community for some assistance. Has anyone managed to get this right or do you have some ideas/suggestions.

    Regards
    Yoda

    Hey Yoda,

Try switching off the WDS on the MR3420.
i.e. No tick in the "Enable WDS bridging"

Now let the billion or Netgear establish a WDS link to the MR3420.

This is how mine is working where I have another TP-Link 1043ND wireless router happily connected to the MR3420.
SSID's on both routers are the same.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Base122

THanks for your suggestion. I tried this without success.

I then contacted DBG/Uniterm and they are stumped. They could recreate my problem but it appears not even TP-Link overseas could help.

Sigh - back to the drawing board.

I have had my fair share of fiddling to get wds working. In the end using the exact same equipment and firmware versions on both ends solved the problem.

It appeared to be a security issue. With no security everything worked fine but as soon as security was raised routers couldn't ping each other anymore.

Using Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware to share a 4meg line.
