Default BlackBerry 9530 storm from Verizon

    Hi,

I have purchased Blackberry 9530 storm from Bidorbuy it was delivered at my address yesterday from Hong Honk. I have put my SA vodacom simcard 072 317 2740 to my suprise I can not make calls or using my BB but I have sufficient funds in my account. The BB is written Verizon at the back and my IMEI no: 359483.02.489123.1. I can't even set-up the date and time because South Africa is not showing there.

Kindly assist if you can becuse I have a bed ridden mother whom I have to communicate with her nurse all the time. I am going to give my mother my old phone because she doesn't have one.

    Kind regards

Hoping that you own a credit card, check out www.blackberryfreedom.com it will cost you about R70. But its the only way, one of my friends ordered a BB 9650(sprint branded) on bidorbuy, after a fiddling with his phone, it works perfectly now. Hope this helps

I would edit your phone number if I were you.

You don't want people to start spamming you.

Seriously now why did you buy from BidOrBuy especially someone situated in Hong Kong, buy from someone reliable, and is situated near ur town if u buy, if anything is wrong return to sender for to sort it out...

You cannot make any calls cos the phone is blocked and works on verzion network, u can unlock it with a code for a certain fee I know one of the owners. He will need the IMEI number etc

ok i managed to setup my fone from verizon just by changin APN to 'internet' , then dial ##000000 and when the cdma menu shows up just change the mobile directory numbers to your numbers and also the blackberry registration id to 2011, or get vodacoms bb reg id then make sure to press the menu button and save.. Fone should reset/restart afta.
Also make sure u have bought the bis subscrbtn, u can start by doing that by puting your sim card on anada fone as your fone might not show the ussd menu yet.
If all fails check host routing table, register, do the battery pull.

Angry Blackberry 9530 from Bid or Buy

I also bought a blackberry 9530 from bid or buy.

I could not register BIS, because it does not work with USSD codes. I google'd and google'd to just find out that it us a waste of money and time... but aha... i managed it.

Firstly to activate your BIS, you need to phone the USSD number. I.e. I am on MTN and the USSD Code is *141*11# So I phoned 141 then while the machine is talking enter *141*11# and follow the instructions. Do not let the 141 call end.

After activating the BIS go to https://blackberryid.blackberry.com/ and register. After registration look for the newest software on BBM for the 9530. It will take you through a few easy steps. After that you will be able to load BBM, internet etc.

I have two more problems that I am currently working on with my phone. One I cannot phone directly out of the phonebook. It says the number you have dailed is incorrect. Yet if you copy and paste the same number from the phonebook to the call screen it works.... urrrggggg My second problem is that I can receive sms's but cannot send.

Hopefully... no definitely i will resolve these last two issues.

    I hope this helps you

    Default Dialing Problems

Hi can you please help, I also bought a 9530 from Bid or Buy and they assured me the phone were unlocked . To make a long story short, they exchanged it to another one one. I've been 3 times to Vodaworld and Blackberry and still have the same problem. I have changed networks and eventually I got the internet and BIS to work, but I still cant make or receive calls. Any help PLEASE!!??

    Default Blackberry Dialing fix

    Hello fellow South Africanz,

I know you guys are having some issues with the Verizon edition Blackberry's. Hope this helps.

    1) For dialing issues, please change Smart Dialing to South Africa.(Menu->Options->Phone options->Smart Dialing-> Country Code: South Africa). Smart dialing changes a number(082 123 4567) to (+2782 123 4567). If smart dialing is set to UK, it will dial +4482 123 4567 instead. That's the problem for the dialing issue.

    2) Set Date/Time to South Africa time zone(Menu->Options->Date/Time->Time Zone: Harare(+2), and also set date and time to manual and manually set the date and time.

Sms's don't seem to be a phone fault but a network issue. Have been using a Verizon phone for over 2 years now in South Africa and don't seem to be having any problems. This could also be due the the fact your smart dialing is set to the wrong country.

For BIS access, it only works on MTN and Vodacom so far. Have tried Cellc but they say i have to come through to them and don't have the time to.

To setup Vodacom, fill the airtime and sms the word "blackberry" to 100 and u will get activated.
To setup MTN, fill the airtime and activate on any other phone except the Verizon Blackberry. Easiest way.
8ta has not been tested by myself yet.

Please note that for some reason, the *111# or any menu does not work until BIS is active. No idea why and couldn't find a way to get around it. Its just the way South African networks are set up.

Hope this helps a few people.

    Oh ya,

For the locked part, chances are that the phones are unlocked. If it shows MTN or Vodacom in the background, then it is unlocked. If it says, Activation required, do the following:
Dial ##000000 and hit the green button. Change ur mobile directory number by one number(so change one number), hit menu and save.

If you do figure out that the phone is locked, please inbox me and i will get the phone unlocked for free for you. Does take around one day, but it is at no charge. Also, if you are looking for some good software, please have a look at www.bbtweaks.com and check the download area. Can get a good hybrid which will speed up the phone and give it better battery life.

Hello my fellow struggling South Africans

For problems with regular browser (NOT using bis) and email settings see this :

    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...ntries-712551/

You must active Legacy Restore mode on the Device by doing the following :

In advanced options -> Service Book you must open the keyboard and turn it into landscape view, hold !?123 till the lock comes on then type : 4 ? 2 ?

Once you get the message on screen, connect your BB to your computer, open device manager and do a restore, now choose the .ipd file downloaded from crackberry. Restore this and like magic... Browser plus email! (Tested this on MTN only so far).

When I bought the phone it was still actived for BIS via Verizon. Because of this RIM will not push service books to my device and the only way to get Verizon to take off the PIN from their side is to contact them... Yes... Contact Verizon in the USA?!

Near impossible, but I have my sister trying to get it done for me as she stays over there... Just something I should point out, Bid or Buy buyers BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
