You call your ISP you have the line with, they have access via Uniweb to upgrade it, was instant for me. For you second question, didn't happen automatically, had to do it manually.

Remember though, it depends on the DSLAM you are on, DSLAM4 in Belleville North is ADSL1, so won't be able to upgrade, DSLAM5 however is ADSL2+ so you can upgrade.

    Who is your line with?

Well the line and the ISP accounts are seperate. Line wasn't ordered via an ISP. The accounts we have are with WA. I guess that makes it tricky.

I suppose if we were really hard up for a 10mbps line we could order a new one through WA or whichever ISP and let them make sure it's a 10mbps line.

Regardless of all this though, I am just very happy indeed that we at least have a stable 4mbps line.

In that case you have to go through Telkom's call centre, ISPs only have access to upgrade lines that are ordered via the ISP and match the 3 requirements for 10mbit (adsl2+, metro-e backhaul to dslam, and Attenuation values low enough)

    @4mbit stats were
    SNR downstream 27db
    SNR upstream 18db

@10mbit stats are (true sync now is 10015kbps down and 987kbps up)
    SNR downstream 10.5db
    SNR upstream 7.3db

    Att downstream 27db
    Att upstream 14.3db

    Richard Hi,

I hope you are well, with respect to the Bellville North issue this has been addressed and the balancing completed. We are monitoring all the DSL traffic in the Bellville North area and are seeing the positive results.

Can you also confirm how your own DSL service has been for the last 4-6 weeks.

I am available for the next 1 hour or so should you so wish to discuss.

    Best regards

How would one know if the exchange in your area is congested? Is there a list on the internet with congested exchanges?

Am busy getting Pingplotter for some results as our exchange NSNG, KZN, Stanger was recently upgraded (how far i don't know) to 10MB and i sync at a sweet 6MB (perhaps someday more ). This was over the weekend of 21/22nd April this year.

Anyway, everyday from 18:00 to 22:30 the exchange seems to get congested and no communication to any sites (80-95% packet loss) and am wondering if they still got some work to do on the exchange. In all the years we had ADSL we have never had an issue such as this but due to more users getting ADSL, i cannot say i am too surprised.

Another thing i have noticed is during the above times that my Noise margin DS drops from 14.8 (currently) to 9db and without me doing anything such as rebooting all is restored after the above times. I will provide some details from PP when i have them (any recommendations on settings is welcomed too as its the first time i will be using it).

As far as getting things sorted, what can i as a normal customer do about it?

@Diabolix , what email address did you use and did you just send the tracert results?

For the first time since they upgraded our exchange 2 weeks ago, it hasn't gone on the frits yet tonight, normally goes off on weekends/all week from 18:00 to 22:30 around this time but will see what happens tomorrow.

I would like to have their email address handy incase i need to email them .

+1 for Telkom sorting out the issues, we have great support on the forum too ;-)
