But pretty poor technoque to tuck the bat behind pad. If you play pad first then expect to be hit on it...

That's the way AB has always played. He plays the ball late, uses his keen eye and is very wristy. On this pitch you're playing at risk whether you play bat behind pad or in front of pad I suppose.
