Hi there

Does anyone know whether a Kindle 3G's sim card has to be registered with Rica?

All best

The general rule as I understand it is that any device not containing an actual local network physical SIM does not need to be RICA'd -- until the inevitable day when some bright spark in government revives the suggestion that even visitors to South Africa who are roaming from foreign networks will need to register (don't laugh -- it has already been proposed.....). In that case there's a good chance that ALL 'foreign' mobile connectivity devices would need to be registered, which is when the fun would start.

Almost, if not impossible to implement! More so with embedded SIM cards as there is no way to find the SIM serial number and in most cases the MSISDN. RICA took six years to fully roll out so my guessing a more complex plan of non-SA SIM registration would take 10 to 15 years!
