Uh, so when somebody calls me from a number that I do not recognise ... I should quickly google for this thread and find the number in the list here?

think the idea is that you can google a number from google.co.za interface, and it will find the numbers here if they are listed
this helped out a while ago when there were scammers phoning to say that the person committed a traffic offence and must bring money to a certain location (the YOU magazine scammers). other people googled the numbers, found the thread, then knew what they were dealing with.

maybe google the "SOUTH AFRiCA DONT ANSWER" in order to add new numbers , when you have time or want to help with the list

could help if you missed a few calls and you want to know who it was (if it was a telemarketer and should you bother to phone back)

could help if you pick up its a telemarketer who doesn't want to give his real identity, like those holiday package bastards who harassed me a while ago.

recently heard about a colleague who dealt with an insurance telemarketer.
the colleague tried to be nice, and listened whilst saying no, multiple times to the offer.
in the end, the sales agent stated that the client did in fact say "yes" to the offer.
was a LOT of schlep, phoning, threatening, finding tapes, ombudsman etc,
i'd rather not answer than answer

anyway like i said, if its for my own use only, i'll be happy.

I just don't answer, they can leave a message / call back!

Doing the above is just too much effort.

I don't understand why people just simply don't answer calls that come from a number that's not in your contacts or that are from an unknown number. That's what I do and it makes my life much more stress free. If it's important they'll leave a message.

Most clients phone on the cell first and then on the office number...

thats the thing with clients phone numbers, they often phone from an Unknown number/a different number on the switchboard (meaning you'll have to save 20 numbers for company xyz) ,and in most cases some people dont have the option to simply ignore the phone call.

i see no-one is really gonna use this thread, but hopefully it will help someone somewhere someday

I get what the OP is saying.
Any weird looking number, like (011)0111101 should be avoided.

Whilst this is a relatively good idea.. what would be better is a database that your phone could reference when a call came in and mark it as a "potential scam" type call or something along those lines..

As for the telemarketers.. I just go no and hang up... if they phone back I answer, then swear at them and hang up... usually works wonders.

Recently have been getting international calls for investment opportunities. Weird numbers like +271234, +274567 etc.
