Hi,

We bought a new place, has a pool, with no net or fence.

We have a 15month old, so this is obviously a concern.

I remember pool nets being a complete pain in the ass, quick to take off, but a pain to put back on after you are done swimming. Thing is, pool nets are relatively cheap; I haven't priced a fence yet.

The pool is small, 5 x 3 or so i am not phased, just want the less labour intensive.

Are there any alternatives I should be looking at? Are pool nets still a ballache?

Thanks! :p

Thought it was illegal to not have a fence around a pool. I would say get both to be safest.

Get the net. It's not that big a pain, less than 2 minutes to take off, maybe 3 minutes to put back on (stretches the back though...) Also get the alarm that comes with it, triggers when it detects movement.

I have about the same size pool as you.

Get the fence. You'll end up not going for the quick swim 'cause it's too much of a hassle to take the net off and put it back. It sounds stupid, I know, but it is just more convenient with a fence.

Get a net. its a bit painful to take off and on, but peace of mind is worth it. A toddler can go through a forgotten gate and drown. No matter how vigilant you are. Doesnt have to be your child, visiting friends wont have the second nature, "We have a pool wheres my child" reflex thought. Kids can go through forgotten gates, clamber fences, they cant go through a net with an alarm.

Also once its put on for the winter you can worry a little less. Dont have to keep checking the gate.
Once your lightie is a couple yrs older and can swim you can ease back on net usage and only put it on when friends visit with small kidlets.

Completely agree.

luxe, I’ve got the t-shirt. My son fell into the pool when he was about 2 years and six months old. I was not even two metres away from him and promise you that I did not hear any sound. Remember, someone who jumps into a pool makes the water splash and you’ll hear it, but smaller children usually just slip of the edge. It’s completely quit and you won’t hear a thing. Trust me.

If I can give you a bit of advice: get the net or then both and save yourself a lot of tears and self-pity. Someone can / will still forget to close the gate or the kid will grow older and open it.

Good points all round.

I havent heard about this alarm on the net, linky?

I got a quote from Honeydew pool people.

Will phone the Aqua-Net folks tomorrow. Alarm sounds like i now cant NOT have it.

I agree I hate pool net clips and sometimes they get stuck or won't fit in. Wish someone would invent an easier way to put on a pool net.

get the net, get the net, get the net .... definitely get the net with alarm.....even if you don't swim that often because it is a pain to remove. better to be 100% sure.
