Thread: Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

I used to use Openweb a few years back and decided to try them out again recently, bad mistake. I had a Gold uncapped account up until a few minutes ago when I went through the effortless process of signing up with Mweb on their website. Openweb's throttling is shocking and when you email them about it your service gets worse for a few days. In the 2 months Ive been with them they have given me 3 or 4 different accounts to connect on. I have struggled to download just over a 100gigs in a month which some people are pushing 150 to 180 in a month on Mweb. There was also a bunch of billing issues I had with Openweb they tried to over charge on more than one occasion. Also you don't have access to news servers if they put you onto a VB account. Unimpressed all round. Hopfully Mweb can improve the quality of my internet or I will have to switch again...

I think Mynet is IS based. Speeds of 4kb/s are pretty much standard fare for that.

I'm still getting full speed. Seems like the different backbones perform differently for everyone.

Yeah, I think it depends on how much data you're using. IS still makes use of rolling windows.

That only applies to IS accounts that are resold. Gold accounts that use the IS backbone don't have thresholds or rolling windows.

    Hey Guys

Our Gold accounts do not carry a rolling window whatsoever, and is now unshaped after hours and on weekends

I've been moved to a WA account on my gold uncapped, and downloads only work at full speed (380kB/s for my line) if they have 8 threads or more... I am in Joburg so my ping to Joburg games servers is at the very least 50ms (20ms to Cape Town, 20ms back and 10ms from my exchange)

Is there anyone on an IS gold account getting full speed in Joburg? I was having issues last week on it.

WA is having problems, so if you are using that backbone you might have issues.

DSL Heaven (WA) is one of the better Gold backbones to be on IMHO. And I've basically tried them all. You can always send an email to support to change your backbone.
