Thread: HUAWEI E585 POCKET WIFI 3G MIFI Wireless MODEM ROUTER Any good ?

  1. #1

Question HUAWEI E585 POCKET WIFI 3G MIFI Wireless MODEM ROUTER Any good ?

I'm looking at getting the Cell-C 5GB mobile broadband, and was thinking of buying the MiFi device in advance while abroad.

Is this one good? Do you have other suggestions - would it be better to include the MiFi router in the deal with Cell-C ?

I've done a bit more research and see that this type of device range is suited for devices within the same room, whereas I'd like similar with a range to cover the whole house - what's on the market that can do that ?

The E970 gives better range but no HSPA on 900MHz so that rules Cell C out!

I have a E5830 and the Wi-Fi is OK if you place the unit up either in an upstairs room or loft!

On the down side, using the device via W-Fi no USSD commands are possible for checking balance etc.

You might be better off looking for a Router/Modem combination. Just check that the router supports the modem that intend to use!

    Thanks for the advice.

    I have ordered the TP-Link TL-MR3420 3G/3.75G Wireless N Router * Price: $44.95

I have two 7.2 modems (one is an E272) - would these be fine, or do you think that it's worth buying a 21mbps modem like this one ?

No. You can always buy modem later. Check your connection first, if not satisfactory, external antenna is your next move. BTW, E272 is not good for Cell-C. What is your another modem? It must be UMTS 900MHz compatible.

    The E353 does have 900MHz that's required by Cell-C!
