Thread: I can not connect my new ipad 2 on Telkom’s wi-fi router/modem

Default I can not connect my new ipad 2 on Telkom’s wi-fi router/modem

Good people, I have a router and a modem that I got from Telkom’s “Free 3 months” promotion (its name: do NETGEAR). My laptop work fine on it, but I have been struggling to connect my new ipad 2 on it, I called Telkom’s internet and ISP support a couple of times already and they can’t help me, the last agent told me that if I can connect to their internet via my laptop and I can’t connect via my ipad 2, the problem is with the ipad and not with their internet, they told me that it’s a “Browsing issue” and they don’t have “troubleshooting” scripts to resolved it. Can somebody please help me out?

Sounds like you have not enabled wireless on your router.Do you see a green light on your router under "wlan"?

    1. Have you enabled "wireless" in your modem/router?
    2. Is your AP hidden?
    3. What is your SSID?
    4. What wireless encryption are you using on your modem/router?

If your AP is hidden, then you will have to search for it on your ipad2. Go to settings, network, and then search...

Are you connecting your laptop to the router/modem with a cable or wirelessly?

If wirelessly, then you probably need to look to the iPad and make sure you have all the settings you need. If you use a cable then it is likely that the wireless portion of the router/modem is either not set up, or there is something extra that must be configured. You'll need to ask Telkom to walk you through setup of the wireless portion of the device, or (better) get hold of a quick guide/manual and use that to troubleshoot.

Is "wi-fi" enabled on the iPad? By default it should be. The most common problem us inputting the correct WPA key. Telkom's models usually use the number printed on the sticker underneath the router. Check you haven't made a typo inputting that number

I have the same problem - neither my ipad nor ipod touch connect to Telkom wifi althogh my laptop connects wirelessly - no problem
both devices recognise the enabled wifi network but when i enter the password (which i got from the NETGEAR router website linked to my account as there is no WPA key underside the router) both devices return the error msg "unable to join the network"
my office IT support tell me its a telkom problem and Telkom tell me they dont support apple devices >;-$
Both devices link to other wifi networks (eg airport lounges, public places wifi hotspots) without a problem
i have WPA2-PSK(Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key) enabled

Did you try a different security protocol and see if it worked?

Had the same problem with telkom rooter. Had hidden the signal.then it does not work. It has to stay visible for the tab to work via wifi. That soft my problem.

My laptop used to connect wirelessly ( spelling ) , just went off line this morning,
After spending almost two hours with three different "specialists" regarding this issue, I am none the wiser.
OK, I am not too computer literate, just a normal house wife, but how can the router suddenly not recognise the laptop?
I was told to unplug, inplug, switch on, off, etc.
Go to Netgear website, change username and password, blah , blah
Third person told me that router does not recognise the laptop --- after "knowing" it for almost two years?
    Any simple assistance anyone?
    Thanks

I'm starting to see that iPads are a bit of a hassle when it comes to wifi.

I suggest that you fiddle around with the wifi settings on the router. Depending on what wifi standards the router supports try changing the mode to N-only or if it doesn't support N, then switch to G only and make sure it's not on mixed mode. Also make sure that your transmit power is set to maximum and try and set the wifi channel manually and take it off automatic.

Not all these options may be available on your router, but see what there is.

EDIT: Can you see your wifi SSID when you open the settings up on the ipad? Does it ask for a password and then fail or does it just not receive any data?

It is all turned on, I am now asked for a PIN which should be on the router.
I am a TELKOM customer, the latest "request" from Telkom via the laptop is a PINCODE...8 digits, I cannot see it anywhere on the router.Netgear DG834GUv5. I managed to connect wireless from the desktop computer, the laptop, that used to be connected "ceased" yesterday and since then I have been on the phone for hours.
Sorry for my ignorance, but thank you for the response.

There should be a code on the sticker under the modem
    Network key
PS. just make sure when you put the key in it is correct with upper and lower case letters
