I am an insurance consultant and have pdf and word documents which i need to have clients sign. Ideally i would like to have these documents on a tablet or smartphone, and then when visiting a client, they can sign on the tablet or smartphone. I need to be able to email it immediately to the insurer as well.
The other apps I tend to use all the time are MS excel and email. Navigation like tom tom or anything similar would be nice too.

I was told to look at tablets (asus eee) and the Samsung Note smartphone in particular- as these allow you to load
pdf and word documents, which your client can complete and sign and then just email it straight from your device to the insurer.

    So my questions are:
1.Is the above possible? can a client actually fill in their details and sign in their own handwriting on some devices?
    2. which tablets or smartphones would you recommend for the above tasks?
    3. Finally, do i need additional software or can they do this out of the box?
    4. if i need additional software- what do you recommend, price and is it easy to use?

    thanks

Is the Samsung Note able to do the above??
    1. Yes. You will need an app like ezpdf reader which allows you to write on pdf's but can be done.
    2. Note is perfect for this, but a larger tablet like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 might be better if you need them to read text, etc.
    3. See 1.
    4. Pretty cheap: https://market.android.com/details?i...d.reader&hl=en

Obviously the Note has quite a decent Office suite, but you can buy others if you don't like it, plus Google Docs is free.
Google Navigation is free and works in SA with voice navigation.
Of course this is true of all Android tablets so you can choose anyone and do this stuff. The Note's big advantage is that it fits in your pocket and you can make calls with it. If you plan on doing a lot of work on office document though then a larger tablet (or really a laptop) is a better choice. Tablets and phones will never replace PC's for office work (although the Asus Transformer seems like a great option but it's not strictly a tablet if you use it that way).

Edit: If you need accurate handwriting (for signatures) then your only real options are the Note and the HTC Flyer. Though Samsung are rumoured to be announcing larger tablet Notes soon.

Update: I've just tried out the EZ PDF feature, on an ordinary PDF it will create a separate annotation file for the handwriting, I'm not sure how it will deal with PDF forms as I don't have any. Feel free to PM me a PDF form and I'll try it out for you.

I'm actually getting annoyed with this phone now. Random freezing for 30 seconds at a time, restarting as I'm dialing a number, not letting me answer calls.

    Bleh.

Haven't encountered any of these problems and I've had the phone since it was released. What rom are you on?

I'm using CheckRom, with the GO launcher/lockscreen and widgets.

Well you can't blame the phone if you're using a custom ROM and a custom launcher. I got sick of the whole process a long time ago and just use official Samsung roms and the default launcher now. No freezing, no call problems, everything just works as it should. If you're going to be experimental then there's a price to pay.

    Agreed 100%
On the flip side, if you read the ROM threads, identify issues, and follow instructions - then all is good.
My last 4 phones have all been custom within hours of purchase and don't have issues. Running Rocket ICS 1.4 now and loving it. There are some small niggles but I know about them from reading the thread and accept them.
Running stock is like buying a car with governor My opinion of course.

    Hehe - good analogy

It is just like guys modifying cars... Normally, the car becomes less reliable, and there are little niggles, but they are faster!

    Fun set of videos: http://youtu.be/LGpoKMuCVxg
It's a clever product placement for the Note. There are five videos in the series.

I installed the AbyssNote kernel 4.0 from 3.7 earlier today and my phone is silky smooth now! Antutu scores 200 points lower but it just feels so much faster and a lot more responsive. I'm impressed.

Not N7000 specific, but Google Chrome Beta is now available to SA. Had to use Market Enabler before to jook location.
