Default DSTV wont swap out New Drifta in warranty because its been on 2 accounts.

    Hey Guys

I Recently bought a brand new DSTV Mobile Drifta from a colleage who had got himself a HD PVR of which came with the Mobile drifta Decoder. He had tied the decoder to his account a day before I bought it(He had had it for less than a week) Once I bought it from him he canceled his subscription and I tied it to our DSTV Premium subscription however I was not able to get it to work with my iphone.

I tried it with a friends iphone and the problem persisted however his drifta decoder would work fine, after doing a bit of troubleshooting I contacted DSTV and they advised me to take it to a Customer service center and they would check it and then replace it.

I took the device to A Customer Service center at WaterGlen Shopping center in Pretoria and they checked the device and said they would swap it out however once they saw it had been on 2 accounts they wouldn't dispite it still being under warranty. The agent said that because it had been on an account before it was deemed as Second hand and that they cant swap it out despite it still being under the 6 month warranty. How is this possible? Just because the device was put into another account name it doesn't mean the warranty is void? surly a 6 month warranty is a 6 month warranty whether its had one or 20 owners in that time?

The agent said I would either have to buy a new Drifta decoder and then they would swap the faulty one out or I would have to get insurance on the device and only in 3 months would they swap it out.

I find this completely disgusting, why must I as the consumer pay for insurance and wait 3 months to have the device broken product swapped out?

Is this breaking the CPA? The device was never working yet they wont swap out. This is very frustrating and I believe its extremely unprofessional/unethical of Multichoice.

Well a second hand car I bought was still under warranty. I just had to notify them.

Maybe ask the guy you bought it from to return it.

I thought the same thing, so I asked the person that was dealing with me if this would be possible and he said no. He said since the device had already changed hands whether I or him tried to swap it out the system wont allow him to.

It's called the Consumer Protection Bill, use it! MultiChoice is a well know fellon when it comes to the CP bill. They choose to ignore it as much as they possibly can, regardless of what the law states. They see themselves as above the law, and are regularly caught with their pants down. Now the Consumer Protection Agency had issued them with a compliance report and still they are ignoring it, stating that it is unheard of that consumers get that much choice when it comes to the channel line up and what you pay for. If they ignore you, just write to www.hellopeter.com and they'll jump to help you. Either way, they are screwed as they'll be under the magnifying glass in 2012 and could lose their broadcasting license if they are not carefull.

actually, CPA will only apply to the person you bought it from and Multichoice has every right to decline your request as you did not purchase directly with them or an authorized agent. sorry buddy, your SOL on this one. try and get your money back from your friend.

Actually I think MC are SOL on this one.. an item that is bought has a 6 month or 1 year warranty... this is not invalidated when the item is sold or changes hands as much as MC would like to think so.

So did you have it replaced? I was there earlier today and was told the same thing... Well I'm the sole owner except it was on my bro's premium acc so he downgraded to compact package which led me to put it on my name just last night and now its suddenly second hand? They are insane I don't care about their system it was Always mine 1st hand ownership Never changed only the account holder... There is no warranty disclaimer in the box stating this, nor did anyone explain this to me.The matter was escalated till monday I'm getting a new one no mata what route I have to take, I'm NOT allowing them to bull**** me! My money spent MY conditions. Will give feedback after I hear from them...

Total hog wash IMO -nail them Hello Peter etc etc, this dictatorial attitude from the major players must stop.
When buying one this is not part of the purchase agreement and is not advised upfront and therefore they will have to accomodate.

i bought a second hand pvr so i went in to change ownership and activate it. joker tells me my warranty falls away because of the change of ownership. pvr was bought in november last year so i have till november this year. i ask him to explain. he says no warranty. i let him finish everything. i then ask to speak to the manager who can come explain to me because i don't understand.

he goes away to a room at the back. as he walks i turn around to see where he is going. so i stand there and watch them talk. after about 10 minutes he comes back he repeats the same story. i ask to speak to the manager again. im already passed p..... now. i stare at them again. after about 10 minutes he comes back and declares the warranty will hold till november.

they are a bunch of con artists who are not usually confronted and called on their shady practises. i figure that manager didn't feel like explaining a fraudulent practise to an already upset customer.
