Thread: Alcohol Question

  1. #1

    Question Alcohol Question

    Good Day

Was having a thinking session today (Unemployed teen habit) and was thinking if I would throw a house party how would I legally apply to sell alcohol. Is there a special short term liquor license or do I have to have somebody from the bottle store around with a license?

    Regards

as far as I am aware there is a moratorium on all liquor licensing, chances of you getting a licence even if there wasn't are minuscule to non-existent at best

You used to be able get a temporary liquor license, and it was usually done under your supplier's license, but the laws have changed since then so I don't know if that is still the case. When someone has a fete or some fund raising thing where they have a beer garden, they will need a temporary license, so they must still be available somehow or other.

You won't get a license.... period....

IF your party is big enough, there are bottle stores out there that will stock your party for you and sell on your behalf and you can take a portion of the proceeds (from what I remember)...

Though, I'm not sure they'll even consider a "house" party.

That's right. I organise a lot of company events and we use a token system. You buy tokens at the door and you're allowed to buy things at the bar with them. Just ensure that you also sell non-alcoholic beverages at the bar as well and you're sorted.
