Hoorah! More ICASA deadlines to miss

After four years of a “long and hard slog” ICASA sets itself more deadlines to figure out what to do when it comes to LLU

ICASA can set all the deadlines and make all the announcements they want. Nobody believes them anyway.
They have lied to us and misled the public for far too long for anyone to actually take them seriously now.
I regard ICASA with the same scepticism and contempt that I view 419 Nigerian Scammers.

ICASA is beyond useless. Every set of regulations they produce does nothing to help the consumer. I truly believe that ICASA is nothing but a front, a public facing entity that pretends to have our best interests at heart while protecting those of government and the big telecom players. I also believe that the only reason ICASA even bothered tackling interconnect fees last year was so 8ta would have a smoother entry into the market. How else does one explain the glaring omission that any drop in interconnect fees had to be passed onto consumers? How does one explain a set of laws to govern ADSL that are still a shambles 5 years after their original publication and about which ICASA seems in no hurry to do anything?

Why aren't they being held accountable in Parliament?

Nice article though RPM, it's great to see a bit of the MyBB of old.

Hey, be fair: from the continuing press reports the Nigerian scammers are performing well ...

It is the season of giving & in that light of it I would like to dish out some awards now...

"The Grinch Award" - Telkom S.A
We'll all know why... This is a cocktail mix of corporate greed with governmental incompetence, truly a perfect recipe for screwing you over.

"The Bob Cratchit Award " - ICASA
How much of the 'we are underfunded and understaffed' song and dance will you keep playing before you grow a pair and stop being Telkom's bitch !

"The Ebenezer Scrooge Award" - Neotel I'm tired of their drumbeat that 'fiber to the home is the future' but can't offer it due to the immense costs, total rubbish ! By next year their will be at least two independent companies doing the job they were licenced to do.

"The Jack Skellington Award" - Multichoice
For helping to now drag the digital tv migration even longer then a plot in a soft core porn movie. Either way Jabu Public will be screwed !

Please feel free to add to this list ;-)

Marwala confirmed in mid-2007 that the LLU process will be completed in 2011, adding that this should not be mistaken with giving Telkom another four years of monopoly.
We now know that Telkom was indeed given another four years of fixed line monopoly, and it will continue for many more years by the look of things.
An ICASA fail, but directly attributable to an ANC fail.

Accountability isn't something the ANC understands.

ICASA proves once again, they are Telkoms lap dog and the picture in the article is a perfect representation of Telkom puling the strings in this whole mess. Perhaps, only if Telkom fails will there be change or if the regulator decides to regulate.

By kicking the can down the road they hope against all hope that they will acquire the skills to deal with the issues at hand before everything falls apart or perhaps the issues will just go way on their own. Clearly they are incompetent and they know it.

I propose that on this forum we start spelling (i)CASA because they aren't really independant are they?
