Pastor Rafael Maldonado Motta (born March 10, 1985 in Maracay, Venezuela[1]) is a Formula One driver currently with the Williams team. Before making his Formula One debut in 2011, he won the 2010 GP2 championship. He became the first Venezuelan to win a Formula One Grand Prix when he won the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix from his first pole position. Maldonado also raced in the Venezuelan Destruction Derby Championship, winning the title, a record 5 times from 1992-1997, killing 32 drivers and injuring a further 13. When he retired from the Championship, he was voted the most dangerous man in Venezuela, and 40% of the voters started a petition to make sure that Maldonado should never set foot in a car again. The petition was squashed by Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez.[2]
