Hey All - This is me just ranting on

I Have the 9900 and I am beginning to get a bit bored of it.

Rim is failing hard and are trying to make a comeback as hard as they can but its not looking good, Blackberrys have taken off in SA and I feel like I am almost forced to have one, I also have the iPhone but using whatsapp as a way of communicating just isn't the same as BBM. Also my friends aren't interested in using Whatsapp because BBM is the cheapest way of communicating. I hate being trapped with a phone and only having one good aspect to it (BBM) If it moved over to iPhone I would move over in a heart beat but I'm stuck to my 9900. I am upset becuse I want BBM but not the blackberry.

Also if by any chance Blackberry phones were to stop being made and consumers were to eventually move on after a couple years then things like whatsapp would have a more popular usage.

Other factors that make my Blackberry experience horrible:

1) Slow BIS
2) Poor Battery
3) lack of apps
4) lack of quality in physical build

Why I love it

1) touch + type
2) BBM (of course)
3) big keyboard
4) BIG range of accessories

What do I do when I am stuck with something that I love to hate and that I only have for one reason?

Thanks for just letting me vent on my frustrations what do you think?

I got the same phone but I don't quite follow some of your bad points:

1) Slow BIS - I got no issues with mine on MTN
3) Lack of apps - I never reallly got the whole app thing TBH, I think the os7 browser is great, got my social networking apps ( facebook, twitter, rss , jabber etc ), garmap for navigation.
4) Build Quality - It seems fine to me, whats wrong with it?

I've fiddled with a mates Samsung galaxy and my ipad/ios experiance has been terriable from what I want to use it for so can't see myself with either for now. If RIM was to fail, I would definately rather go with some form of Android solution over IOS or maybe the new windows.

In the same boat with many others, its the damn girls, they all have BBM.
I need a GF with an iphone lol!

Isn't that your own fault? :/

I've got no issue with BB hardware - it phones, messages, mails, plays music, view photos etc and I don't much more myself. However, the slow BIS thing has got to me recently and I'll be moving away purely for this reason.

I'm one of those that Googles facts often when I'm out (yea, yea - people love and hate me at the time ;) but the last 6 months has been insane. By the time the page has loaded (after a few time outs) the conversation has changed topics anyway.

It's probably Vodacom though, as most complaints seem to be with them

Also don't quite get it :/

When I got my first BB my friends ragged me because they had 300,000 apps available - but I've never struggled for an app. I use 10 at most ... social networking, news etc Plus of the 300,000 Android apps, 150,000 are duplicates and 100,000 are pure crap anyway

If that comforts you.
Apps rule, BB + apps = fail.

If you a google bot, get an android or iphone, I suspect you will in the near future.

Only reason why I just moved over to Blackberry was to start app development - I don't do BBM, I don't answer my phone, I don't check voicemail, I don't do social, I don't install apps and I still have no idea how you do a please call me.

Crap, I think I need to get myself a Nokia 1100 again

Ignorance is bliss :D

What do you want from your phone ?
Why don't you do a comparison on gsmarena, but what you want and be happy.
I'm a BB9300 user and very content with what I have and what I use it for. I wanted a bigger screen and bought a playbook. What else do I need ?
Nothing.

It's true?

Android has tons of duplicates. Take two simple apps I use : Flickr and Twitter

You have 1000 apps of the same crap doing the above ... Flickfolio, Flicka, Flickr Uploader, Flickr Companion, Flickroid, Flickr Droid, Flickview HD, Flickr UPR, Andoid Flickr and about 500 that do the same. You have Tweetcaster for Twitter, Tweetdeck, Twitplus, Twitpal and another 500 that do the same.

As for crap ... iBeer? Choke The Chicken? Talking Tomcat?

Quality Android applications right there ....

IiB :)

My wife and I recently jumped from BlackBerry to iPhone. Dropping BBM was extremely difficult, even for me who was not really using it very much. Luckily our family was already on whatsapp. Not as nice, but definitely good enough.

As for the apps topic, RIM likes to respond to this with numbers. Yes BB users have downloaded X apps this month, but that's because you need to try 3 or 4 before you find one that's any good (or works). If you don't use apps, it makes life simpler, less to worry about. I used PodTrapper, GTalk, Audible, BeReader, Whatsapp, Latitude and Google Maps on a daily basis. You can replace Podtrapper and Audible with itunes-sync, but I like to not have to plug in every day (wifi sync sure, but a PC still needs to be on, and I can't get it to work), so I got InstaCast and Audible. No proper official-ish Gtalk app on iphone, so Trillian. BeReader is made almost obsolete by the more pleasant browser.

To get an idea of why BB users claim there are no apps, compare the screenshots of Audible on BB to both Android and iOS:
http://www.audible.com/wireless/blackberry
http://www.audible.com/wireless/iphone
http://www.audible.com/wireless/android

The Audible BB app (on Curve 9300) is also really slow and scrolling the play buttons wraps around, extremely frustrating. On non-BB (iOS is what I use it on now, Android looks just as good), this app is a dream.

Then there's Skype and gotomeeting, two apps you like to see run on your phone but end up still using the PC version of.

Fair enough same can be said for iOS

But then again, in those thousands of Android apps you will find gems that is not on any other platform like

AnTI - http://zimperium.com/Android_Network_Toolkit.html
or
WIFIKill http://slideme.org/application/wifikill

and so on :)
