Default Bandwidth control "enabled" gives better uploads.

I have done a couple of tests with this bandwidth control enabled and disabled. Cell C E1820 and MR3420.
On the average I get better upload speeds with it enabled. During the speedtest, sometimes the download speed would spike up to 5 mbit/sec, but "stabilises" around the 2 mbit/sec mark. The spikes do not occur with bandwidth control disabled.

Tests were done yesterday and today, at 3 different times in total. All tests to the Midrand speedtest.net server.

Have tried the Bandwidth control with no real effect. Enabled, other and set the ingress and egress to 20168. Do I need to reboot the router to see an effect?

No, I only pressed save after enabling/disabling. What's your upload speed? Maybe it's high enough already?

    - Select bandwidth control and see if it is enabled, if not, enable it.
    - Then under Ingress and Egress settings replace the values with your dongle's max speed, in my case (Ingress/Egress: 7168 Kbps).

Hopefully the results are favourable for you as well.
I noticed a long time ago that the upload speeds on my MR3420 were erratic compared to my PC. This solved the problem!

    1. Enable Bandwidth Control
    2. Line Type: Other
    3. Egress / Ingress: both set to 100000 Kbps

The problem occurs with all the modems I possess: E1820, E367, Sierra 307. The differences in upload speeds are significant, especially on international links.

    http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/ International Upload Speed Test:

Bandwidth control enabled: Average of 3 uploads: 0.89 Mbps
Bandwidth control disabled: Average of 3 uploads: 0.19 Mbps

    MR3420 Firmware Version: 3.12.8 Build 110418 Rel.43954n
    ISP is Cell C

I went through a similar rigmarole with the WIFI, but finally solved my problem.

    What I have:
    8ta 20gig (night rider combo).
    Huawei 21Mbps Dongle.
    TP-LINK MR3420.

I had no issues with the dongle plugged straight into my PC,
Fantastic browsing & download speeds, zero youtube buffering.

yes speedtest.net tests were also erratic, mostly depending on the time of day.
Remember that Uploading will always be less than download speed.
I mean to simply point out the Huawei E367 specs: "Download speeds of upto 21.6Mbps &
Upload speeds of upto 5.76Mbps" thats almost a 4:1 Ratio,
not to mention ISP upload limitations. anyway,

My problem came when I bought the TP-Link Mr3420.
The Ethernet connection provided a good speed (no noticable reduction in speed), but
WIFI Browsing became significantly! slower and quite painful.
My test was to play the same youtube video after every tweak I tried, to fix the problem.

    Solution:
The MR3420, can run up to a max of 300Mbps, Only because it is 801.11"n" capable,
and it will if you are using the 801.11n signal mode.
If you dont have a "n rated" WIFI card you are probably using "b or g" and only getting up to max 54Mbps.
The wider the passage the better... (in data cases)

My WIFI card was not 801.11n Compliant, I stuck a TP-link 300Mbps "n rated" PCMCIA card into my laptop.
    Cost me R165ex.VAT (http://www.dbg.co.za/index.php?cPath=1_55_63)

    It worked for Me.
Back to fast browsing & watching videos smoothly.

    Hope this helps someone.

P.S. Also do the "Bandwidth Control" tweak.

    Peace out.

    Thanks for the tip.
Definitely made my connection a lot more stable.
