I checked at Vodacom today, and it looks like I can upgrade after the 17th of this month. Assuming all goes to plan, I too shall soon be joining the Galaxy Nexus owners club.

I'll also be looking for a case. The GNex is just so damn thin, and it's made out of glass. I'll be terrified of dropping it.

I am due for my upgrade as from Monday next week. I was dead set to take this phone but after reading about the S3 I am not so sure. I am thinking about waiting.

I also agree tho, you cant cover beauty..

Glass? I think it's more plastic...

Anyone got this working with the Drifta?

I'm not going to research this (because i'm lazy) But i'm skeptical as to whether it's REAL glass, I'm sure it's some type of hybrid glass! If it was glass, the weight would surely be similar to the anchor of a phone known as iPhone.

According to the official Galaxy Nexus tech specs page, the screen is "curved glass". And frankly, plastic doesn't usually shatter into shards when you drop it:

To return to my original point - this is why I think it's a good idea to use a cover on the GNex!

Damn I need to wait until Oct before I can get mine. Maybe there might be some cooler android by then but I doubt it.

Now the patience need to be strong in me.

Hi, advice from owners of the Nexus and experts. Should I get the Nexus or wait for the S3? My upgrade was due 2 weeks ago!

Well plenty would say wait for S3 as its going to be a bloody nice phone, but once you have the Nexus in your hands and use it you going to take it.
I was going to wait for S3 but got the Nexus anyway, will check when it gets released and sell my Nexus if i like it.
When you use the Nexus you will not believe how smooth it is.Its like having an android iphone..lol

I would say get the Nexus. The SGS3 still has to be announced, shipped, and then picked up by the SA carriers. It'll probably take another six months before you can get your hands on the phone.

The GNex also uses stock ICS, which in my opinion is vastly superior to the TouchWiz interface that is used on the rest of the Samsung Galaxy phones. The software updates on the GNex are handled directly by Google, not by Samsung or Vodacom, so you'll always get the latest version of Android at the same time as the rest of the world.

There's always going to be a "better phone" launching six months down the line, but you have to upgrade at some point. And frankly, I would rather time my upgrade cycle to coincide with the Nexus release cycle than the Galaxy S release cycle.
