Tip: Use Light Flow from Market to control all the LED notification lights in Nexus.

I too have this problem. I hadnt realised it as this is my first android phone. Tried resetting the apn but didnt help. If it is parental controls on the sim, how do we fix that?

It's such an awesome phone. Beautiful screen, stock ICS is wonderful, and there are massive improvements to almost all the system apps. Face unlock isn't a gimmick at all; provided you "improve" it a few times, it works across in a wide variety of conditions, is extremely fast and genuinely useful.

However, there's just one problem. I'm pretty sure I got a faulty unit

Any app that uses a native view (as opposed to a web view) and uses images from an online source wouldn't load the images. As a result, the Android Market ends up looking like this:

I encountered the same problem on apps like Boid and Foursquare: text would load, but images would not.

I was only able to find two other people on the whole internet who have encountered the same problem, and both of them were running custom ROMs:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1424380

Neither of those pages offered any solutions. I tried accessing the internet from different cellular towers. Then I tried doing a factory reset, but the problem persisted.

So, today I took my phone back to Vodacom today and reported it as an out-of-the-box fault. They took the phone in, but they said that they first need to send it in to their technicians to confirm that there really is a problem. So now I have to wait an extra before I get my GNex back. And worst of all, I have this terrible suspicion that their technicians won't understand what the problem is, and they'll just say the phone is fine and send it back to me. And then I'll have to fight with them and send it back in again. Sigh.

I don't suppose anyone here has encountered the same problem?

I'm on MTN and when I got my Galaxy Nexus from UK i also had APN problems and then created custom settings for everthing to work on MTN.

I don't suppose anyone knows how to create a custom APN for Vodacom?

@ElecEng: A friend of mine on another forum says his Vodacom Galaxy Nexus works fine, and says he uses the following APN:

    Name: Vodacom
    APN: internet
    Proxy: 196.6.128.12
    Port: 8080
    Username: not set
    PAssword: not set
    Server: not set

    Everything Else: not set
    MCC: 655
    MNC: 01
    Auth type: Not sey
    APN type: default,supl
    APN Protocol: IPv4
    Bearer: Unspecified

Maybe try put that info in, and let us know whether it works?

Thanks Vulk. Those are the exact settings I already have. It must be related to the SIM parental controls then as I did have pictures in the market when using WiFi... I can't imagine that my sim card is locked for adult content tho (am I giving anything away by being pretty sure about this ) but if it is, it seems I will need to visit a vodacom shop with my ID, etc and get them to unlock it. Might be awkward as my phone is still in my fathers name, so I would have to get him to go into the store and ask to unlock "adult" content....

I'm using the same SIM I had in the Galaxy S which never had this issue. Sure it could be the SIM?

Tried again now on 3G and it was chomping through data and all i did was go to the first screen on Google Play, I think it used about 5MB and then i turned data off, maybe it needs some time to load everything? I couldn't leave it running because I don't have data on my contract.

How have u guys found battery life on the Nexus? GSM Arena's web browsing test had the Nexus scoring dead last out of a15~ phones and lasting less than half the time of the iPhone 4S.

I found a similair problem with my galaxy tab 3g... I eventually found it was actually the sim card... Parental control was active, and somehow the images on most sites refuse to load... Android market included...
So, I decided to go to the Vodacom shop today and find out whether I have a parental lock on my sim card.

And guess what: according to them, I do.

Wtf? Could this seriously be the cause of the cause of this problem? Why then has this never been an issue on any of my previous Android phones? Could it be that's is only an issue on ICS? Whatever the case, the whole situation is frankly bizarre. I had them disable the parental lock (it's easy - you just show them an ID document or driver's licence and they do it for you right there in the store), so I'll just have to see whether that makes any difference.

As you might guess, I'm now deeply regretting my decision to hand the phone back. It seems like there's at least a fair chance that there was never anything wrong with it, and they're just going to send me the same phone back again. I'm kicking myself for not being more thorough.

I'm pretty sure this test was done with the CDMA Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Wireless. Apparently the GSM version gets significantly better battery life.

The Galaxy Nexus is brilliant, but a disappointing upgrade if you are thinking of moving from the Galaxy S2. The HD screen (stunning), and the notification led are the only better specs, and the S2's screen is pretty damn good already.

Plus with ICS my S2 scores just over 4000 on quadrant, much higher than the Galaxy Nexus. I'll wait for the S3.

Only if you're looking the hardware side of the equation. The most important ant advantages of the Nexus lie on the software side, imho. For me, those advantages were more than enough to justify spending the extra R700 that it costs to get the GNex over the S2.

I am running the same software on my S2... Samsung's official Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3. It takes 10 minutes to upgrade...
