Is this D.O. that said so?

Sorry, don't want to keep this going, but I have been doing it totally different to what you described. And this came from SSA themselves, and not one of my engines have ever packed up.

Unless the process is different for N/A vs. Turbo?

I love the philosophy of this car and it's priced very well!
Did you drop it on bigger wheels?
Otherwise the car has no stance.
    This is stance

Thank you for removing that person's name - I really don't think it is correct to publish people's names on an open forum like this.

Please accept any comments I make about running a car in are based on 50 years of driving and owning cars.

If you disagree with them, please feel free to do so ~ just don't expect me to always agree with you...

I think that the people that run in the cars are a bit biased towards preferring a longer trip like 2000km in a short time, versus shorter trips of about 50km per trip over a longer time. Mainly because you can run in the car in one trip over a couple of days versus running in the car over a couple of months. Even if running the car in over a longer period like two months is actually the better way, it is not financially viable for the dealerships or Subaru.

Point is that Subaru states clearly how you should run in your car and it's not by doing consistent speeds and rpm's over a long range, hence my question to Fazda on where he got this information from ( Subaru Technical JHB? )

Owners of the 86 can read section 2-1. Driving procedures in their owners manual.

This is actually quite sad to see the lengths you are trying to go to to prove that you and only you are right!

When they refer to long periods at constant revs they are referring to an artificial situation where engines are set to rev at a certain number of revs for a specific period of time. Bench run engines are set up to do that, and that is the way Formula 1 engines are run in, but then long life is obviously not important.

On a trip between JHB and Cape Town, I defy ANYONE apart from a robot to keep their revs constant. Do yourself a favour and go out on the road and try and drive even 10 km without your revs fluctuating. If we all had to run our cars in over short distances, what would happen to engines in cars driven by reps for example - those things average 8 to 900 k's every day of their lives, and they are better for it.

Bottom line, is read the instructions and PLEASE use some common sense.

I REPEAT.....Vlad, enjoy the trip and your car will as well - you are certainly doing it more good than harm!

    Sigh ...

Why on earth would a car manufacturer put in their owners manual a way to break in their engines if it was meant for an artificial situation? That makes no sense at all. They are telling you, the owner, how to run in your engine.

I am not here to try and prove anything, I am stating the facts in black and white as printed in the manual of the car represented here.

Yes, the engine rpm will vary if you drive 10 or 100km at a "constant" speed. Problem is , it will vary very little, maybe 10s of rpm and not 100's or 1000's for instance. I am posting this to help the new buyers to get the most out of their engines, and not to try stir your little holy pot of wisdom.

By all mean, drive the car far to break it in, just be aware to do proper loads through out all the gears and engine rpm ranges below 4500rpm.

You can't generalise all cars in the way the engine must be driven in.
