Thread: Netgear DGN2200M v2 keeps resetting

  1. #1

Default Netgear DGN2200M v2 keeps resetting

I recently signed up for the Telkom 1mbps promo thing and got with it a Netgear DGN2200M v2 router/modem. The connection works fine but the router keeps resetting (which is very irritating when playing online). Shuts down. Red Power Light. DSL re sync. The whole works.

I've tried a firmware upgrade which also doesn't work because of the telkom branding.

I've used another router which does not do the same.

Should I return the modem to telkom or does anyone have any other advise

    Thanx

I also have the same issue with the Telkom Netgear router/modem. The thing is it work 100% when I plug in a lan cable but as soon as I change over to wireless it starts resetting after every couple of minutes. I have tested it now a couple of times. Is there maybe settings I missed that I need to change?

I also have a TP-Link 3g router for 8ta that hasn't given me any problems. Could it be that the TP-Link and Netgear wireless can not work together?

My duoplus is doing the same. On wireless and lan connections. Have been offline since Wednesdaygoing to test a different router tonight because telkom is taking their own sweet time. I spelt telkom without a capital letter on purpose...

Check if the router isn't overheating, especially if this only happens once you're starting to use the wireless connection. It could also be that the transmit power is too high for the modem to handle that load. I'm not sure if these entry level WiFi AP's would allow you to change the WiFi output power.

If the ADSL + PPP lights go down on the router, then you should check your ADSL statistics first. If you post all your ADSL stats here (line attenuations, SNR (noise) margins, line speeds and ADSL mode (G.DMT or ADSL2+)), then we'll can give you good suggestions on where the problem may lie.

Lastly, make sure that ALL your telephones, alarm & fax machines are connected via a POTS filter. If you simply want to test whether it is a filter issue, then you can simply unplug all the other devices, except for the ADSL modem. I would also suggest that you remove the splitter filter from the ADSL modem if you have one.

Personally, I would never suggest a Netgear or Cisco ADSL modem. Their SNR margins are usually poor and Netgear likes to hide all the advanced settings from their web interface of the router, like bridge mode for example. I've also seen that Cisco hides the ADSL stats from their web interface too.

The TP-Link & D-Link makes much much better ADSL modems, but I've had my fair share of issues with configuring of TP-Link routers/WiFi AP's.
D-Link ADSL modems also comes with their firmware flashing issues, where you can accidentally flash it with an incorrect one, which would lead you to bricking your modem

I signed up for the same promotion and got the same modem, though I'm using Telkom for ADSL access and Mweb for ISP services. It seems to work fine for me.

I haven't had any issues with the WLAN as yet, but I did hit the same snag with firmware - the modem shipped with version "V1.0.0.27_1.0.27" and it seems that the latest version for the DGN2200M (as per the Netgear support site) is V1.0.0.35 But trying to flash that version (or any previous ones) just gets you a "wrong firmware" message.

Interestingly, the modem doesn't seem to be ISP-locked as is usually the case with these "free" modems - I can log onto my MWeb ADSL ISP account no problem. So why would the firmware be Telkom-specific ??

The Netgear site references a plain "DGN2200M" whereas the modem itself is marked as a "DGN2200Mv2". Perhaps there's a subtle firmware difference ?

As regards performance at the physical layer (ie ADSL line stats), I've owned and used modems from Netgear (previous DG834, this DGN2200), Billion (Billion/Mweb W40), CNet (CAR-854) and my current "plain vanilla" D-Link DSL-2500U. In many cases the actual ADSL line interface chipset is the same, eg Broadcom. The differences I've seen between the modems in terms of attenuation and SNR have been pretty minimal.

That's a ditto for me too - very very frustrating. Try playing on Xbox LIVE and you suddenly lose connection in a multiplayer session and lose all of your progress

How can we fix this problem? Un-brick it??

These Telkom modems always have something wrong with them, I had a Billion 400G Modem that I got from Telkom, It's Wi-Fi kept "disappearing" now and then. I returned it and got the Netgear DGN2200Mv2TELKOM Modem. I haven't had any problems with it yet.

I also have a Netgear DGN 2200M, but I bought it from another supplier, not Telkom.

I haven't had any issues with it. Not sure if it's something Telkom coded into it or if it's just your router that's a problem.

Maybe have them replace it as it obviously a problem.

I know this is kinda an old thread, but I only got my netger from telkom resently.

    Firmware: V1.0.0.31_1.0.31

Same problems as everyone else. Just restarts randomly. Doesn't matter if I use ADSL or 3G. I have changed my wifi to 300mbps, don't know if it has something to do with it, but it's our 2 iPhones connected to wireless.

And no, my router isn't getting warm, as it is pretty cold here today.

Hi everyone. I currently have exactly the same issue with my DGN2200Mv2TELKOM router. Every once in a while (a few times a day) it resets. It drops the wifi, LAN and DSL connections and I have to wait for it to connect again. I see this thread is pretty old. Did anyone figure what the issue was here and how to get it resolved? It's really frustrating for gaming as well as media streaming.

Have the same issue with the Telkom DGN2200.My router failed last week and hurriedly purchased one of these.Going to go and see them tomorrow to get a replacement and will take a printout of this thread to point out to them that there is a serious issue with this router.

Mine is stable, but I am currently not actively using the WiFi on it. I have another wireless router that has GbE ports, so my media player and NAS are connected there, so it doesn't make sense have devices using WiFi use the Netgear. So, my Netgear is just running the ADSL.

I took mine in this morning and got a replacement without any struggles. This one is supposedly from a new batch.

Set up and testing now. Will see how it goes and report back.Starting the WiFi running at 300Mbps.
Will see if there is a stability issue with the WiFi speed.

@Ranger - If this problems continue, is there anyway that you can influence for them to check if it might be a firmware issue, seeing that you can only flash the Telkom firmware on these routers?

And I had my first Router Fail with the new Router. Trying 145Mbps WiFi now.
