Capitec Mastercard Debit Cards... interesting

.. See their charges for debit purchasing is only R5, is that total cost or is there other charges as well..? Can't get a clear answer on their site

There are no fees on purchases, only a flat fee of R35 for cash withdrawals. I've used it in the past, and certainly better than buying travellers cheques, just draw money in the local currency. I'm in Europe at present and actually forgot my own advice. Just remember you can only withdraw up to your Rand daily limit which is usually R3000.

Thanks I saw that pricing, thought they'd add like 2.5% conversion fee on top of that etc perhaps, but if that is not the case then it definitely not bad at all!

Well Nedbank does the conversion, so probably the rate they use is 2% worse than the going rate, but that would be the same with any Bureau de Change - either a commission or worse rates.

That said, I would still take a few notes of Euros or Dollars to change until you get to an ATM.

Ok. So what time does these banks close, I went to the one in Vangate Mall that was suppose to operate with "mall hours" but was closed at 5:30.

Confirmed yesterday with Capitec, no conversion fee etc.. the fee they disclose is the only fee you pay = not bad at all! International card swipes = Free, Cash withdrawal at point of sale R5 and at an ATM = R35

I've only tried drawing from an ATM.

[edit: i draw to my maximum limit at ATMs to minimise the flat charge as a % of the amount. Drawing at till points would be good for smaller amounts.]

Are there particular shops across the globe that allow cash withdrawals at the tills? i.e. Asia, Eastern/western Europe, Middle East, UK, N &.S America, rest of Africa, Australasia?
