Default North Korean cellphone users may be war criminals

    http://mybroadband.co.za/news/quick-...criminals.html

Using a cell phone in North Korea may get citizens branded as war criminals...

Compared to being branded a thief if you're a white South African ..

Governments should be scared of their citizens, not the other way round.
Maybe they are, why else are they trying to curb freedoms?
    It's time for revolution.

Interesting, this will drastically improve communications between citizens, add MXIT, Twitter, FB, etc and I smell a revolution (since groups of people will start being able to share info, realise they are getting screwed and then coordinate) in the next couple of years. That or a drastic change in the government stance to its people.

It would be interesting to do a case study on this and watch how the penetration of basic mobile, then social networking leads to social change.

Very easy. Only radio stations and TV stations approved by the government is available. Most radios cannot tune to other stations than the official ones. NK people are constantly told how they are oppressed by the evil US, and how much better their life is, and how corrupted the SK people are. The last contact that much of the population had with outside countries is the US-Korean war, so they only have stories about how the soldiers acted in this time to judge others on.

This is why I am opposed to all forms of government and ICASA censorship (Internet and media), and why access to the internet is so important, together with proper education. If the population is not aware of how they are oppressed, then they may believe that life is better than it actually is. An uninformed populace can be led easily.

What does the west have to do with them not having phones, this is their own government restricting them maybe they just don't know how easy phones can make your life?

Although in 2012 I doubt they don't know that...

They drank the "hate the west" kool-aid and have polarized themselves back into the bronze age.

The only reason the North Korean government can control its people is by making the "west" this big bad evil enemy that is about to invade them and kill all their babies. People in NKorea are polarized with nationalism and hating the west. Why do you think all other corrupt governments around the world use the same tactic? It works.

And the west has no part to play in making themselves look that way,I mean its not like they've invaded any lands and killed any nations babies right?!I mean when was the last time AMERICA/ALLIES done any invasions......

Lol just kidding I know what you saying but then again I guess their government does have a point if the country is not led by a "USA SAY JUMP ,I ASK HOW HIGH" type of government then they will invade and not for the benefit of the NK people....so you have to ask yourselves, whats better for the people of north korea in the long run?

I honestly don't know, but right now it seems the current way is hurting them badly technology and freedom wise. They themselves need to stand up and protest over these kinds of things......Outside intervention doesn't seem like a good solution judging from other recently invaded nations.

Yeah, its better to not get invaded... keep the dictator... what could possibly go wrong? 1.6 million dead in political purges and over 3 million dead from a badly managed famine....

The irony is, that the war cost less lives than than evil and bad management from the dictator. So tell me... was it worth it?

At least South Koreans have food... and cellphones today.
