Uncapped ADSL designed for browsing at R59

Wright says that OpenWeb has 500 of these accounts on promotion, and clients that sign-up now will “only pay R49 for the rest of January irrelevant of the package they choose”.

Fail

What a joke, "Uncapped ADSL" but you are not allowed to do this and you can only do that at this time and my favorite, 'Gaming will be allowed'. As with most of our uncapped products HUGE FAIL

Tempted to get one for the wife to allow her clients to surf for free. Largest download for her would be a 1Mb PDF from her accountants.

Its intentions are good but not so sure of how it would really work.

Can't you get like 1GB for R20 these days at any speed? So it's much cheaper to just buy a capped 1GB package when considering all the limits placed on these uncapped accounts. No streaming/dowloading etc. Doubt anyone will reach 1GB of usage if just browsing mybb and opening emails.

R329 is really expensive for a service that is basically just for day to day browsing. Normal browsing would never add up to any great amount of data. And if you are just browsing, what need to you have for an uncapped account? It's conceivable one would pass the 3GB mark through just browsing, but then I'd rather fork out R300 bucks for 10gigs from say Cybersmart or any other ISP. At least then, if I do have the occasional download or youtube video, it won't be so slow that Jesus will have come and gone by the time it's done.

I'd get one of these if the 4mb one was like R150. I'd then combine it with my 10mbps Openweb uncapped unshaped afterhours account which is 192k during business hours. That would provide me with a pretty good solution.

Currently I'm living off Afrihost topups for business hours and the openweb afterhour account for weekends and 7pm to 7am.

This is great and cheap, i will give it a go and see how much i can get. If i can save 300+ per month then why not :)

WD Keoma and OW Team.

I would rather pay R 69 for 1 Gb of unshaped Axxess which has 12 months in which to use. Buy about 10Gb a year as a backup or for use when I am working at clients who are capped.

Whilst I accept it is way more expensive than some of the offerings in the marketplace, I have at least a 12 month expiry period and that alone makes it worthwhile although I must admit I have not looked at what the other providers offer in terms of expiry.

“The download will still come down, but no great speed can be expected,” said Wright.

•384kbps OpenBrowse Uncapped – R59

384 is no great speed to begin with.

I am a pensioner and always looking for something cheaper. I was on MWeb uncapped.(R219). At times this was shaped. esp. during the day.
I took the Openweb R149 offer end of December and never looked back. I Asked if I should shape my download during the day myself and was told: We will shape you if necessary.
News downloads from Astraweb have been running at full speed day and night! Never noticed any shaping.
I'm very happy with it.
Thank you Openweb!

Add R130 Telkom tax, ADSL rental etc, etc and then all of a sudden R199pm for 10GB at > 4Mbps looks even rosier.

Considering all the complaints about the axxess 384 JustSurf uncapped account at R99/mth I find it strange that anyone's getting excited about this offering.

In fact the axxess AUP seems to offer a better deal for 40 bucks more: http://www.axxess.co.za/aup.php#toc11

Personally, if I were watching the pennies, I'd rather opt for axxess capped at R19/GB.

Has anyone on here actually used the 384k openbrowse accounts?

I want to know if its sufficient for a companies daily browsing/email of around +- 500mb/day as well as to administrate a normal IT ecommerce site(not a big one, more like the regular small-medium IT webshops we have around here) - basically to process the orders that are received through the site. There will be very little streaming/downloading done on the account - apart from normal http downloads for windows updates/program install files.

Uncapped browsing, that has been around since the 90's with dail-up and I guess this is just about on par.

I would rather have 1gb of 'free' usage than uncapped shaped, throttled to death.

haters will hate but the product says browsing which looks and sounds different to downloading.

I have a long way to my pension days :O, thanks for the feedback.

I have used OW before , was on their Gold 4MB. However having to cut back on our spending in the house, i had to sacrifice using it so i am open to any new offerings that gets my interest :D.

Axxess AUP is not very friendly imo, OW on the other hand want you to burn those gigs ;-)...

Wow, this is a good first step to cheaper internet in south africa.

If you cannot download with this account they should rather call it uncapped surfing instead of uncapped.

Openbrowse is great if you just need browsing, even instant messangers work and your normal antivirus update.
