Cool quote:
And another:Neology CTO Roelf Diedericks said that since he “despises the ‘Church of the New Monopolistic Apple’, you can be sure that it’s a PC”. “I like choice. Apple makes it their business to remove people’s choice,” said Diedericks.
“Smartphones are a misnomer. Tablets or laptops should be smart. Phones should be dumb. And have phenomenal battery life. That is all.” Diedericks currently uses a Nokia E6. “With my previous crap-smart-phone I couldn’t last a day without a charge. Thus far with the E6 I can go for a week without a charge. Maybe more!”
Completely my view as well. Let the tablets be "smart"“Smartphones are a misnomer.
I find it slightly disconcerting that people in relatively high up tech positions adopt a luddite stance. hipsters much?
I think it's all relative. My Android phone has become an essential tool for me. If my phone was dumb, I would need to carry two devices.
Apple has given us a walled garden with iOS (not OSX). Is that so bad? Gone are the days of viruses and malware. Looking at the current state of botnets, I think a walled garden is unfortunately a better option than open systems for casual users. As a power user, I like to tinker, so Linux will always be a favourite of mine, but when I need to get work done, my Mac is never far away.
Nobody is forced into one platform. The choice is up to you, so I have never understood the need to bash different platforms. So why the closed mindedness? Especially the bigwig in a telco company.
Hmm not one of them uses the S2. I wonder why? I'm getting mine next month. Would love the 4S if it wasn't double the price of the S2.

A little time spent on this site clearly reveals which way you are inclined
Kinda surprised Jannie is using an iPad 1. Its not like he can't afford an upgrade.
Good thing he isn't in the telecom game. Oh wait.Diedericks is definitely not a smartphone enthusiast. “Smartphones are a misnomer. Tablets or laptops should be smart. Phones should be dumb. And have phenomenal battery life. That is all.”
I think that might change if enough people think like this:
Cute.Local telecommunications and Internet Service Provider (ISP) executives are typically knowledgeable on all issues relating to technology and gadgets.
Their choice of computer platform and smartphone brand may therefore be used as sound advice to follow when forking out money for a new laptop or mobile phone.

I make awesome WP7 apps - search the marketplace for 'RogueCode'!
I also write for WPCentral
tell them about the mybroadband app. Maybe they can use it to see what we want and how they can improve
I have to agree. I started with a SGS and enjoyed it at first but the battery life started getting to me. I then bought an iPad through FNB and very soon the SGS was being used less and less. Trouble is I should have gone the Galaxy Tab route as the SGS spoilt me for options. The iPad is very close to a dumb phone for functionality.“Smartphones are a misnomer. Maybe more!”

change is inevitable... cognitiveradio.co.za
The incremental improvement to the iPad2 was not enough to warrant an upgrade. I find if you skip every second iDevice model, it makes more sense. I went from iPhone 3 to 4 and will go to 5, skipping the 'S' versions.
The current iPad 2 is again closer to an iPad "1S", so I'll wait for the iPad 3.
But it also shows how good a product the first iPad was. After using it nonstop a few hours per day for 2 years, it still performs flawlessly ( apart from the bugs IOS5 introduced)
In fact, after the iPad 2 launched, there were such good specials on the 1, I bought a few extra ones for the family.
