Thread: Emails with jpeg/pdf attachments not being delivered?

  1. #1

Default Emails with jpeg/pdf attachments not being delivered?

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? WA is my ISP. Since around Monday this week, emails I sent out were not being received (Text and graphics attachments). Then yesterday emails with text attachments were delivered fine, but any email with a type of graphics file attached just disappeared, same thing happening again today - variety of recipients on other ISPs, so no discernible pattern I can see. I spoke to WA earlier and they say they can see that my emails have cleared their firewall and have been sent on. Yet no delivery, and not even a 'message undeliverable' message coming back to me - they seem to have disappeared into the void... No settings have changed on my side since this started, except to change my smtp settings as WA advised, but still no change.

Check to see if your MX has been blacklisted,

    http://www.mxtoolbox.com

Is your adsl and email via WA? if your adsl is with a different ISP then check with them if your ADSL account is not blacklisted as well.

if everything is fine on your end, Ask your recipient to check with their ISP to check there spam filters and track the email.

    Regards
    Keegan

    Hi Durandal,

Have you logged anything with our Hosting guys about this yet?
We should be able to tell what's going on pretty quickly once we have a look at some SMTP logs from our mail servers/ firewalls. Drop them a mail with a few examples you've tried to send/ receive and that have failed.

WA email is shocking. Continuous problems like emails not sent/received, emails vanishing from webmail, duplicates coming through days later, blocking of emails with certain subjects, blocking emails with more than 20 recipients...

Hi Jeff, have been in contact with Ronald and I think he's logged a fault, but haven't had any more feedback as yet. When I last spoke to him, one of the emails was shown to have been passed on through your firewall (but disappeared), but a second test with an attachment failed to turn up what had happened to it. It's hugely frustrating because this is the main email address for the business, and now I have to follow up every email with a phone call to the recipient to see what has/has not been delivered.

Let's see if we can sift through some SMTP logs though. Can you please PM me your client code and any relevant ticket reference #'s so I can follow up on things for you.

Thanks, I have done so. I just don't understand what has gone wrong, because as I said to you in a previous email, we have changed no settings at all on our side, and yet - from what I can see - the problems abruptly started on January 31 and have stayed ever since.

Thanks for the PM, I've requested that we have a look at the logs from our end and get back to you.

@Durandal: Nothing will happen. If something does happen, please inform me so I can direct my father's contact details to Jeff. For a man of 60+, it's unfair that he's had to endure the appalling service I've detailed above. After many phone calls, it's always the same answers. Firewall this, firewall that. No sir we are having no problems. Sir I will escalate this to my senior. Etc etc., nothing happens. WA knows there are serious problems.

What seems to be the problem? You're more than welcome to drop me a PM (and that goes for anyone) with some details and I'll have things looked into. That's why I'm here, and I track the escalations daily.

    Hi Postman,

It 'seems' to be resolved for now, will test with a few people on Monday, but it does appear to be a weird issue - now graphics files are going through, but only smaller ones: One with a 600kb file initially 'disappeared', but then went through after being sent via a test account set up. It just seems strange that while I have touched nothing my side, and this particular address has never - and I mean, never - given me problems, that all of a sardine I should have such huge issues. Will let you know on Monday if things are still working.

Have to agree. It seems to be the elderly or internet unsavvy who tend to get caught in the ISP mail trap. It is really a hook to keep you connected to an ISP, yet they spend almost nothing on maintenance. Mweb does the same.
