Anyone know where I can get such a cable and also, will it be compatible with our phone network (Telkom)?

I have a router that has a RJ45 input for the WAN (someone form overseas brought it with him since he got it cheap there) so I need to find out if I can use this or just throw it away.

If you have an RJ45 input then it means that it assumes you have a working internet connection coming from there. Basically you need an ADSL modem to plug in there :p

Umm... That is a fantastic way to kill your router and piss off Telkom. The WAN port is intended to be connected to a ADSL modem or similar.

No point in converting

No, the ports involved are completely different, RJ45=Ethernet, RJ11=POTS (plain old telephone system).

so I need to find out if I can use this or just throw it away.
Can connect to low cost ADSL modem like D-Link 2500U using RJ45, which in turn will connect to phone jack using RJ11.

Hmmm, so it is a waste of time.

Anyway, the reason I thought it might just work is because the ISDN devices use RJ45 connectors, not sure it the pinout was a straight mirror of a network cable though, so I though I might just have a shot.

Just for interest sake, it is a D-Link DI-524.

Just took the time to download the manual and yup, I need a modem for this. Anyone want a router?

I'm not about to buy a modem just to get a router going.

Why not? A modem is cheap. R233 from wootware.

Thanks for the entertainment. I was already picturing the smoke...

I have 4 routers just lying around, no point in spending on this one as well. SO the offer stands, anyone want it, just give me a shout.

If you have an iBurst desktop modem you can also hook up the iBurst modem to the RJ45 wan port of the router and initiate the PPPOE connection from the router.
