Default Lack of sense in affirmative action - Tutu

    http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_i...1237689C842917

""Some of the programmes for affirmative action, I mean people show more enthusiasm than common sense. It is clear if you only have a junior certificate and the job requires a degree and you employ someone with a junior certificate because he is black, I mean that's stupid."

Affirmative action as a whole is dumb because there is no objective way you can make sure it is fair. NO WAY! It is simply too big to manage without hurting innocent people. When you find yourself in a situation like this the noble thing to do would be to call it off. It is just as bad as Apartheid.

It only took him 10 years or so to work this out, too.

Tutu is one man I respect - he's a Nobel Peace Prize winner and he's not tied down by what the ANC wants him to believe - that is affirmative action/BEE being the 'saviours' of our country.

    Viva Tutu!

Whilst I think AA is definatly needed, I think it needs an overhaul so that it achieves the main goal as well as helping to drive the economy faster than it is currently doing.

AA = Apartheid, end of story.
One day, maybe when gets over the fact that non-whites are just as human as the rest of us and not gods, they might actually realise this and place sanctions against countries like SA where this occurs

AA can never drive an economy when you force the market to only employ one segment of the population, even though they are not qualified to do the job, as well as placing restrictions on what level of seniority a person can attain based on skin colour

A man of God should see no colour?

Now that he has said it, will he carry through and present it to Government in a meaningful way, as people with Degree's are moving lawns, doing odd jobs or simply leaving the country.
The cost of getting a Degree to this country is madness considering that thousands of perfectly good Doctors etc have left for greener pastures.

Like the Power Outages in Cape Town.
Only when things are really ****ed does Government catch a wake up.
Not that they didn't have ample warning.

We have unskilled people filling retrenched people's positions in Council.
The Cape Town City Council has given the boot to about 800 whites.
They had to reapply for their jobs? After 10 or 20 years of service you must now reapply for your job.
Don't get me wrong, I am not sticking up for these people, as perhaps some were dead wood, but I know personally of several whose knowledge is irreplaceable. The City is actually at a loss since they left.
This sort of thing is downright immoral.

You can take Telkom out of the Post Office but you can't take the Post Office out of Telkom.

There might have been "skilled" people who started with AA initially. Problem now is, AA is now so high up that even the highest levels are so unskilled/unqualified that they simply do not know how to stop or change it. Heck they probably can't tell how much it is killing this country anyway [you need a proper education to see that]. So here we are explaining the obvious to the government, but we are forgetting that they are the "consequence" of AA in the first place. Viscous Downwards Spiral.

Simply put: It's like telling the devil to stop evil.

In all honesty, i think the only way someone will see the light of day is when Germany Hosts the 2010 Soccer World cup for the second time. Complete and utter failure that can't be blamed on anything other than incompetence.

Encourage Helen Zille to refuse to build the stadium in Cape Town!
South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

From this weeks meeting it appears the Stadium is on track.
What they did not let on is how much it will cost Cape Town?
Perhaps that was or is still to be revealed. One thing is clear in South Africa, no long term major Capital Expenditure keeps to its budget. They almost always go over budget.

I realise Sport is good for team spirit and nation building.
But lets not put all our eggs into one basket.
Beautiful Sport Stadiums jotted all over the country when people still live in shacks is insane.

A lot of promises were made Re the 2010 Soccer World Cup, but the only thing I can really say is perhaps a waste of time and an incredible amount of money is the Gautrain Project?
There is so much negative vibes relating to this project, I am not even really sure what the real story is?
A Rep I know that lives in that area tells me that they are going to have to Expropriate massive grooves through well established residential suburbs to make way for the track. By so doing they will essentially split suburbs and devalue property. Who would want to live next to a railway track, especially since when you first bought into the suburb there was none.
