The South African Reproduction Rights Organisation's (SARRO's) role is to streamline the complex and time-consuming licensing process that exists between publishers and organisations that wish to copy and share content from South African newspapers, magazines and online publications.

SARRO has been mandated by the South African Publishers to perform collective copyright management on their behalf. This means that SARRO can authorise users to copy and share content from member publications, without infringing copyright.

SARRO update

SARRO's role will be to streamline the complex and time-consuming licensing process that exists between publishers and organisations that wish to copy and share content from South African newspapers, magazines and online publications.

SARRO will perform collective copyright management on behalf of the South African Publishers. This means that SARRO will be able to authorise users to copy and share content from member publications, without infringing copyright. This is done by way of licensing, whereby SARRO licenses users, collects licence fees from users and distributes these licence fees back to the Publisher Members.
