Fibre being laid in Constantia Western Cape - anyone else seen this?

I have been seeing lots of Dartcom (African fibre solution company) spools of duct being dug into roadsides around the Constantia area these past few days - has anyone else noticed this? I'm keen to find out why - there are no signs as to signify who it is (just orange safety barriers along the roads).

The ducts are orange, silver, blue and a variety of colours. What does this mean (are they initiating an ADSL2+ loop extension? I would be surprised to see infrastructure investment now that Telkom are under financial threat)? Can anyone confirm if we might be part of the MSAN pilot?

Anyways it's nice to see some upgrades being made regardless

Amongst others, Dartcom is a Telkom sub-contractor. However, all the contractors work for any of the network providers...

I have also noticed this, but the cables do not appear to end at an exchange / substation of any sort. They sort of end in the middle of nowhere!

Whereabouts in Constantia? Perhaps i'll see them on the way to gym.

At the two exchanges on Nova Constantia and also around the Constantia village shopping centre. There are also a few other locations scattered about the area... I sure hope they make it all the way up Constantia main road so that I can be in range of the laying 0-0

Word is Tokai is being upgraded within the first 6 months of this year - they may still come down to the exchange at the roundabout that you are on.

I am itching to move to Cape Town, first the 100mbps Internet plan by Helen Zille now this. Yoh it must be lekker to live in the Mother City. Cape Town truly deserves its title as the Mother City.

May be part of the City of Cape Town's internal network expansion. As I recall, the second phase of their project was linking up all the local govt buildings in CPT with fiber (the first phase having been the central and Northern areas).

The Strand is also strewn with dug up sidewalks! Datacom plastic tubes and DFA signs all over the place...
