Hi,
I know that you are fairly "dead set" on the idea of backing up to BD - which is fine.
Have you considered any cloud storage options i.e. Dropbox, Skydrive etc. ??

Well you guys made me doubt my decision, so I went I did some reading ... the conclusion is blu-ray is more reliable than tape or hard drives and have a much longer storage life as long as you use quality media. Also don't compare DVD with blu-ray.
Btw, the Verbatims are R20 a disk not R10 as stated before.
True Blu Ray is hard coated.
Really a shame BluRay RW drives is relatively scarce.
Also many optical burn software do a double check for burn errors.
I thought what I might have done for archiving big backups.
The Nexstar

3.5" SATA to USB 3.0 & eSATA External Hard Drive Enclosure w/ Fan
What i like about this is the fact that it is also hot swappable and has a fan.
The store the HDD discs in i'll use. This cost about R25-30

I know some museums archive in this manner. Although they seal the disks in an airtight wrapping for very long term storage.
Just a shame the drives is so expensive now. But that prices will go down to old levels eventually.
