A nine-month old cat is lucky to be alive after it survived being shot in the head by a callous thug.
Cookie managed to stagger home to owner Helen Connelly in Uddington, South Lanarkshire, with blood pouring from a head wound caused by an airgun pellet.
After an X-ray, vets discovered that the pellet had become lodged deep in his brain, which is inoperable as there is a risk the invasive operation could kill him.
Ms Connelly said: 'It makes me sick. Whoever did this clearly needs some help, Cookie is just a defenceless cat.
'These guns should be banned and the person who has done this should be sent to jail. It is a despicable crime'.
Since the attack last Monday, Cookie has been on a cocktail of painkillers, anti-inflammatories and penicillin, which has taken his vet's bill up to £300
