R260 computer - register for a Raspberry Pi from South Africa

WOW, first i have heard about this and super cheap.

Will myBB be doing a review and giving a couple of them away?? Can't believe the demand and i usually read 90% of the articles on here, don't know how i missed reading about this :p

I've been eagerly awaiting its arrival since Aug last year, when I saw Quake 3 running on that tiny little thing :D
For those who don't know, some people have successfully installed and run XBMC on it :D Playing back full HD video @ 30FPS !
(Yes, 10 prototypes were auctioned on ebay a few weeks ago)

Slap it into a small box, add a USB hard drive, power supply, maybe even hook up a USB wifi module and you have yourself a cheap, but very capable media PC !

Perhaps the lack of "R260 PC" in previous headlines ;-)

I'm sure there will be a review/hands-on and some giveaways of this bad boy.

Just a quick question, if anyone here could help me out... say i buy one of these, how will we use the os/interface i see a usb port, which means you could attach a usb mouse but then no keyboard and no external drive? Any ideas?

2 USB - kb and mouse.
I believe it comes with a SD card (sd slot installed) with Fedora on.
No external drive needed.

I would really want one but it does not have the normal wireless standards (i.e bluetooth, W-lan, 3G) so it wont really fit in with what I would want to do with it.

It would be nice to place the little box next to the TV plugged in via HDMI and have a bluetooth KB and mouse so I can surf the web from the comfort of the couch without having to pay thousands on a "Smart TV"

Adding built-in bluetooth or wireless support would double the price...
But why not add a wifi/bt/3g dongle via USB?

According to the list of specs it says usb 2 socket and not 2 x usb 2 sockets, but i take your word for it. An external drive would obviously have to be connected if you are going to copy/view things that are not already on the sd card...
I was thinking maybe a wireless mouse keyboard combo so only 1 slot gets used and the other can host the external.

I saw that on the Youtube video. The guy plugged in a kb and mouse.
But yes, an external drive would be used for external data, but you could also connect it to a network via the ethernet port. Personally I'd add a USB hub to expand things from there, obviously keeping within the limits of the device.

Thanks for feedback guys, i have absolutely no knowledge of Linux, would this be compatible with any wireless keyboard and mouse set? If we wish to connect any peripherals to this, will there be available linux drivers? Im definitely going to use this for a media centre. Any ideas on whether one could purchase a media remote that would play nice with Fedora.

i have been following the raspberrypi for some time and been looking at alternatives over the board.. Specs for the price is awesome but i will be buying the following soon http://www.solid-run.com/

The specs on the CuBox is way better and the ports also.. Its pricey but i would rather spend little more and get a nice uber low powered pc like this.. =) XBMC is what im going to use it for! =)

Would also buy a raspberrypi later possibly just to play around with and maybe run a nice small web server or other sorta box on it! =)
