1MBps is consistant, had a slow day or two, but nothing less than 512.
5 Excellent (much better than expected)
4 Good (better than expected)
3 Fair (exactly as expected)
2 Bad (worse than expected)
1 Pathetic (much worse than expected)

it's okay, just. Would like more bang for my buck though
I'm too far from the exchange to go for anything higher than a 1MB connection. If the exchange was upgraded I would increase my speed
I am on the Do Advanced package and think it's fantastic.
Downloads (Local and International) run at over 100Kbps always and I have no problems playing BF3 on our local servers.
Do Advanced
Was on 384K uncapped upgraded to 1MB uncapped been on this since the 512K to 1MB upgrades, the speed is stable 103-107KB/s downloads, youtube streaming all good seeing my wife got very frustrated with 384K and buffering. We stay about 3km from the exchange which also influences quality.
Surfing is fast no complaints and Online gaming local+International extremely good the average international latency came down from 450ms to currently 250ms.
Telkom can do free upgrades from 1MB to 2MB lines that would be a good strategy/move for 2012 I reckon.
They can definiately look at unbundling Voice+Data line so that you can have DSL only more people would go for 4MB lines and up since it would be more affordable.
Pro's- Extremely Happy with the speed I'm getting DSL very realible.
Con's - R750 p/m to have it is abit steep for 1MB uncapped prices should drop and lines speeds should double for these prices free of charge.
1MB line, very stable, great speeds. Just don't want to pay for a phone line portion I don't really use. Better than my old iBurst connection by far.
Happy with my line.
I had a 4Mbps line a couple of years ago, dropped to 384k, then about 6 months ago I upgraded to 1Mbps again. Overall I'm very satisfied with 1Mbps - the speed is quite acceptable to achieve what I need to (384k is simply too slow), I haven't had any issues with stability or reliability in the 3 years I've been at my current address, so I've never had to phone Telkom support.
Regarding improvements, like many others I feel the cost of a 1Mbps line is too high. I think the 1Mbps cost should be reduced (ideally by the fixed line rental amount, or about R100), otherwise the service should be increased to 2Mbps.
Bit of a speed increase and more reliability.
My line is great but it could always be faster.
Excellent. In my opinion the best value for money product on the table at the moment. Fast enough and somewhat ok price compared to the ultra slow 384k product.
Never had a problem with stability and I get my full 108Kbs.
I am very happy with my line and latency.
But I had some terrible latency during December and January because of congestion.
My linespeed is pretty good although I must add that I seldom use it during the day i.e. during business hours. I mostly surf at night and only download between 11pm and 6.30am so I'd expect it to work decently during those hours. I play the odd game at night between 7pm and 11pm which is usually pretty smooth sailing. I get the most use of my line on weekends tho during which time I expect it to run quick and faultless. I'm happy with my latency in games.
Just recently however, I find that my line tends to drop randomly for no apparent reason. A month or so ago I had the line fixed by Telkom following a nearly a week of downtime and now it seems to be starting on the same trend as the fault at the time did. In all honesty I will say the line has been up consistently for about 95% of the time since I upgraded from 384k.
I'd like to point out that the way technology is advancing I feel short changed with my measly 1mbps ADSL connection to the web. When I upgraded at the time, it was only because a very decently priced uncapped bandwidth option had become available. I was so excited because I would finally be able to surf youtube and not have to be bothered by the constant buffering as with 384k. In the months since I have discovered that HD content on youtube still tends to buffer irritatingly and so I have once again given up on youtube.
How could Telkom make me happier? Increase my linespeed at no extra cost. Or at a very minimal extra cost. Maybe an extra R50 per month but give me 4mbps.
Also surely 384k can no longer be considered "broadband"? I'd say minimum should be 1mbps and then 4mbps as the middle of the road option with 8/10mbps at the high end. Obviously increasing with international trends. Too much to ask I know.
I am quite happy with my line and have had to reset my router only twice in the last 8 months. I do wish I didn't have to pay voice line rental though.
In terms of stability, I've had this 1mb line for about a year, never had any issues whatsoever, I have never called telkom for any problem. Speed has been very consistent as well. There have been no reasons to complain - in terms of the use of the actual 1MB connection from Telkom.
The only issue: price.
