    Default New Conroe benches out

As the title says Victor Wang at Extreme Systems forums has got an engineering sample of the new intel processor.
He has put it through most of the common benches, very interesting results.

I hate intel, but you would have to be a fool to not be blown away. Come on 21 sec on superpi stock? That things a beast. I want one
I really hope AMD pull something out of there sleave, which i have a hunch they are.
    *me goes to investigate

edit: oh and i forgot to mention

Gigabyte + AMD + ATI FTW!

    Nope your all wrong

ASUS + AMD + Gainward = Uber alles!!

That Conroe chip really is a monster, I really hope AMD have something to fire back with but if not with Conroes Performance even I would switch over, that is if it doesnt cost too much.

There is also a comparison to the new AM2 chips on the first page, looks like the ddr2 isnt doing anything for AMD so far, Super Pi times are even worse than before

Well this has been known now for some time. AMD has no direct answer for this and will likely try and drop prices to counter the performance advantage of the intel cpus. DDR3 platform from AMD should be up to scratch though. Right now AM2 may have an even shorter life span than 939.

Only way AMD can stay competitive is to raise clock speeds, which they seem to have been trying. 3GHz opteron is is on its way, although it is single core only, but a dual core 2.8GHz should be next and hopefully by the end of the year there'll be 3.4GHz parts from AMD (dual Core) but at a better price than the curent DC CPU's.

I see AMD is looking at combining the processes of several cores in order to emulate a single fast core. In other words, combine the processes of two cores to look to the machine like a single processor of double the speed.

    Sounds pretty neat to me...
