Hi,

I was wondering if someone could advise on what they've seen as the best(budget vs performance) wan-3g/hspa router around. Doesn't need to have a failover but i guess for future use it would be a nice to have.. currently just looking for a hspa router i can use thats cheap and performs well.

The Tp-Link MR3020 :-D uniterm direct is on this forum and they might offer you a great deal for being a myBB member :-)

That might be good.. seems to be portable which is good but they in cpt tho :-/

Been looking through the forum and see people complain about ddns. I don't need that tho and when i do i usually have a server that does it. As long as it is like the tp-link routers i have in cpt where I set it up once and hav enever needed to play with it again/reboot/restart until power failure happens.. as people mention freezing.

I don't get the cape Town part... Are you there or do you need the setup to be there or the company?

You'll notice the issues are with the MR3420, not the MR3220 or MR3020.

I haven't seen the thread but I would think the 3220 might have very similar hardware to the 3420 so might share some of the problems. The 3020 is a different beast so if you have a doubt get that!

Has anyone actually checked the 3020, to see if it shares the same DDNS web console lock up problem as I described in the 3420 problem thread? The 3220 definitely had the same problem. Easily repeatable and verified.

I'd be curious to know, but not curious enough to spend money finding out!

As I said in that thread, if you use the 3420 or 3220 for simple 3G sharing only without DDNS, you will probably be quite happy.

I have also had problems with unexpected 3G disconnects on both the 3220 and 3420, where the 3G modem light flashes as if it is connected to the network, but the PPP session is inactive. The router then fails to reconnect until a power cycle reset.

To be fair, I have also seen this on the Tenda 3116 router that I tried and the MikroTik RB751, I am testing at the moment.

Not sure if this phenomenon is a modem, 3G network or router issue though....difficult to pin down and totally random.

ah ok.. to be honest i have other TP-Link products at home so i don't use the DDNS feature ever because it's never worked for me on any device i've had thus far incl. a D-Link router. So i just get server at home to do it. I use to be in Cape Town so get stuff from the store there.. not sure if they deliver here or another vendor here.

Uhm not using it for DDNS so yah waiting for dbg/uniterm to get back to me as i emailed them yesterday and still waiting on a response.

Ok so i've had it now for just under two weeks and it does it's job very well :-)

Wouldn't suggest this as a main router for a large place though(then you need that other one with the two antennae so you can add bigger gain ones to it like i did with adsl tp-link router in cpt) as signal strength i think might be an issue for large places. At my apartment though it works perfectly fine.

Quite literally, setup, configure with MAC blocking etc and completely forget about it even tho all my devices just work when at home haha.

1 Question though.. how do i check the data usage via network on it? i.e. is there a USD interface?
