Gmail recently enabled their free SMS service to South African users, but not all local operators are playing ball

I messaged someone on CellC yesterday.

Vodacom is the only one not playing fair.

Thaks for the feedback. We tested it yesterday to Cell C without success. Others reported that Cell C works.

Google however shows that only MTN and 8ta are supported - info substantiated by Vodacom and Cell C's official responses.

Perhaps the ones that "worked" were 084/074 numbers but that were ported to MTN or 8ta?

Just tried sending sms to MTN contract number 078 not working error msg i get "Nathan did not receive your SMS"

I have an 078 number and it worked yesterday. Hopefully it's temporary, otherwise I'd complain to MTN.

The biggest mobile operator wants to make the most from the biggest revenue source with very little data usage from its network.

Tested it just now and it doesn't work. Tried 3 different numbers and both 074 and 084.

Doesn't this eat into their sms revenues in any way? maybe thats the reason why they are stalling

vodacom is probably trying to figure out how they can bill the receiver of the sms.

edit: just takes a while. was told...did not receive your SMS.

but 4 minutes later it was delivered
