So Samsung who must be making a bit of money from iPad and iPhone sales wants them barred? Do they hope that all the Apple customers would then flock over to Samsung?

I think the main thing you have to remember is that Samsung is made up of so many divisions, Samsung mobile would be pushing for the ban, the component manufacturing division isn't the same as the mobile division so they wouldn't be the ones pushing for the ban.
