    Hi 8ta rep,

I note that you guys have tweaked the coverage map, previously(Jan2012) Pauline Close, Morgenster Heights, Brackenfell was highlighted as covered by your 3G service. Hence I went and bought the 10GB/month promo. From day one the performance has been iffy, a few days it's reasonable, but the majority of the time it sucks! Fortunately for me, I have recently found a work around of sorts.

So watch out 8ta coverage maps aren't 100%... rather get pre-paid and test before committing to a contract of any sort!

Hi 8ta rep - please help.

Speedtest results show the deterioration from Sept 2011 to date:
    9/17/2011 8:58 AM GMT 41.151.34.195 2.45 Mb/s 0.13 Mb/s 102 ms Pretoria ~ 50 mi
    4/12/2012 3:51 PM GMT 41.151.96.19 0.16 Mb/s 0.69 Mb/s 110 ms Johannesburg < 50 m

Service is virtually unusable because of the continuous disconnects. A techie came to my location, tested for 5 mins and then left, satisfied that his laptop picked up the signal. My reality is a disconnect about every 10 to 15 mins, with much effort to reconnect.
I am in a supposedly strong area in Pretoria, but in Dec 2011 something adverse suddenly affected the signal. This service is now a waste of my time and money.

    Hi grahame!

We will reopen the 700154 for a technician to come and test once again. The last report was closed saying that the technician came out to your premises and tested with your modem on both his and your laptop and received EDGE signal. With the technicians modem, WCDMA signal was received as well as a good download speed. The tech will come and test speed. coverage and stability of your connection.

The dispatch team will be in contact with you to arrange another appointment.

    Regards,
    Social Media Team

    Dear 8ta rep

I would like to know if there are any known issues at the moment in the Elarduspark/ Rietvalleirand area? My 8ta internet promo 5 has dropped to an unusable speed. The last speedtest had a download of 0.02mbps and upload of 0.08mbps. RSSI is -77dBm.
I have had no issues previously, getting a not great but usable and stable 3mbps download. I have used an assortment of modems (E960, E1820, with and without a 3g router) connected to my notebook, pc and ipad, all with the same dead slow result. As a comparison, I have just run speedtest through MTN and got a download of 6.77mbps. I only really noticed the problem about two days ago, but it may be longer as I haven't been home for a while.

I have reported it to your call centre (case reference number 1078742, 8ta number 0815853981) but I hope that you might be able to add something, as the operator could not give me any information w.r.t anyone else having issues in my area.

    Thank you.

I'm having serious issues in Villieria (Pretoria) today. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1905115298.png
In South Africa even the information superhighway has potholes on it.

I'm having similar issues in the Garsfontein (Pretoria) area. DL and UL just seemed to be degrading this whole week. I have a Poynting external antenna installed as well but doesn't seem to help at all.

Don't know if reporting the issue worked, or whether it is a coincidence, but it appears to be ops normal again.

I used CellC the past 12 months with incredible speeds of 6mbps down, and 4mbps upload.

Now that my prepaid has expired, I have to switch to 8ta.

Have been testing a friend's 8ta the past 30 days, and I constantly get only 1mbps download and 0.1mbps up.

    Shockingly pathetic compared to CellC.

The area is Eldoraigne in Centurion.

Anybody know what the issue is?

Could you give me some guidelines what RSSI is and where I can get the readings for them?
    Thanks!
