Thread: Sears now ships to South Africa

Default Sears now ships to South Africa

So during a surfing spree I land on www.sears.com, and I see a popup:

    Now shipping to South Africa
We make it easy to shop from South Africa with:

    Prices displayed in your currency
Duties and taxes calculated at checkout
    Low international shipping rates
Guaranteed landed costs (no additional charges at delivery)

More information about shipping internationally is available on our website.
Not shipping to South Africa? Click here
20% off shipping on orders of $100 and more!
I remember a few years ago thinking about buying something from Sears but it wasn't easy back then.
(I am not affiliated with Sears in any way)

    Nice

Can I pay the applicable duties (or custom tariffs) and VAT at checkout or COD?

Our partner, FiftyOne determines these charges for all orders at the time of checkout. All of our customers have the option to pay these required charges during checkout. If the charges are paid at checkout, the order total (merchandise landed cost) is guaranteed and customers are not required to pay anything additional (no COD) at the time of order delivery. Customers in some countries have the option to pay these charges at the time of order delivery. In this case, the order total (merchandise landed cost) cannot be guaranteed. Customers will be required to pay the applicable charges (COD) at the time of order delivery. These charges may be different to what was quoted online at checkout. If the due charges are not paid COD, the merchandise will be returned back to Sears and the customer will not be refunded any of the shipping charges.
    I came. I saw. I concurred.

The price of shipping usually has little or nothing to do with the value of the goods being shipped.

    Ok shipping is kinda hectic...
R2400 on a R2600 order (weather station, frying pan, and water feature... totally random i know but hey.)
But this is still a step in the right direction.. I'm sure you can get some decent bargains (even with the shipping) on some stuff... I will be trawling the site much later when I'm not stuck at werk.

Yes, but then their shipping is not doing them any favours.

It is all well and good to buy a pair of jeans for R200 but to then pay +-R400 delivery is silly as you can get the same pair of jeans here for R500.

But as said above, a step in the right direction.

Could still work if the shipping was not crazy.

R200 + 40% duty = R280 9which is not that bad for a pair of Levi Jeans or something like that.

But the shipping costs added in makes it more expensive than buying locally.

The problem is most of the shipping from the US is via fedex/ups and the prices are insane! Better off buying the items from the UK. It might be more expensive but the shipping works out a lot cheaper.
