Thread: Groupon blatantly selling fakes

  1. #1

    Default Groupon blatantly selling fakes

At the moment Groupon is selling this fan, which would appear to be a Dyson Air Multiplier fan, because the representative images are actually from Dyson.

Now the cheapest you will find these fans are in the USA, upwards of about $300. And Dyson South Africa does not even distribute them here.

So for R799 you are no doubt getting a fake, which in all likelihood is an utter piece of shyt.

and earlier today, a photo of James Dyson himself

Can Groupon get away with this? Pretty damn dodgy.

they also did a similar things with the mp3 players, the show the apple shuffle on the pics but the actual product is a local rip off.

i got caught with one of their products and will never buy from them again, very underhanded stuff

You reckon its a Chinese rip-off?

Sister in law bought a beautiful "Omega" watch whilst in China. Beautiful piece, real gold (she had it assayed) and keeps perfect time. Cost was US$190. The real thing in London costs over £3000. We all know its a Chinese rip off, but the quality is superb. Her watchmaker neighbour opened it up and said the workmanship was excellent

The Dyson Air Multiplier's selling points are that it's almost inaudible and it doesn't buffet the air. From what I have googled, the fake DAM's are very noisy. You'll notice Groupon is careful not to point this out.

I've reported them to the ASA for the mp3 player one...

Still waiting to hear anything from the ASA

I guess that option could be for one of the 130+ plus duped customers already

To play devil's advocate, they never mention the name of the device and probably just used the first image that came from googling "bladeless fan". Also note they state "picture displayed is just a representation"

Oh, just like the mp3 advert.. it has disclaimer, but the image they use is fairly specific to a product.. so its safe to assume ppl who buy it are expecting a certain product.

My coworker was actually looking at one of these this morning as he'd never seen it before and asked me how it worked. I read very carefully and saw no mention of Dyson anywhere. I've seen the knockoffs at under R200 and they are as noisy as a normal fan. I figured the R800 price was rather high for a knockoff but not quite enough to be legit.

It is quite misleading to show a Dyson fan, though.

    Default It's a Goldair brand

I receive emails from Groupon daily, and in the email they state that it's a Goldair fan/heater. I noticed though that they mention none of the specs relating to the heater option, ie watts etc. I found another web site selling the Goldair fan: http://www.africaemart.co.za/home?pa...color_plus.tpl
