The issue I referred to before would affect you as well.

We hope to have timelines by tomorrow on when the issue will be fixed.

All service aspects sit with SAIX, and affect all ISPs that don't use IPC.

I have highlighted the fact that the TI support staff need access to suitable support information, and we have had some initial talks with SAIX on what is in place, what needs to be added etc., but we still need to get more visibility for this requirement.

It is now the day after tomorrow, and no joy.
I find it disturbing that TI portray themselves as a powerless intermediary between users and SAIX, and that they are only now, after many years of operation, starting to interact with SAIX.

This should not be my problem. TI take my money, they carry the responsibility for what they deliver, or in this case. fail to deliver. The ISPs contracts with their carriers is what they are being paid to handle.

For about a month now, my international downloads, identical in all respects (router, line, remote site, time of day, everything but the ISP) have been running at 300-400 kilobytes/sec when I am logged in to MWEB or Afrihost and 20-40 kilobytes/sec with TI.

Could it be that all the TI clients have now been placed into the SAIX lite category that we are now experiencing degraded performance?

Madala, this is exactly what I experienced with TI--it lasted for over 5 days--I do not mind if there are technical problems on TI side/SAIX side, but just trying to get through to them and waiting for 45mins to pick up phone, listening to the dreaded Telkom music, was the nail in the coffin for me. I cancelled TI immediately after using some of the allotted data.

If you can afford it, just switch, would be my advice.

    Hi Ranger,

    Tomorrow plus two and counting.

How can users check to which profile TI has assigned them? Where can we see the parameters of the profiles?

I think, as Big Bean implies, that my account may have been moved to a data dribble profile when last the cap was bumped from 16 to 20G

    Default FYI

A couple of traceroute tails from a server in London, back to me when using Afrihost(IS) and IT(telkom)
Telkom seem to think the best route from London to Johannesburg is via Hong Kong. Amirite?
Sorry about the messy code format, I can't find the plain fixed pitch text option.
    I fixed it with a font=courier tag.

That explains some of the latency issues, but not the bandwidth choke.
BTW I see a packet dropped by telkom.

    Slightly better

I'm getting full line speed from rapidshare though, but it just gets worse and worse as the day goes on.

I see there's planned maintence for a few DSLAMs in durban, is there a way to see if i'm affected?

Edit: As i posted that my speeds have dropped to 15kB/s.

Unhappy Others deliver. TI does not.

TelkomInternet say in their boilerplate reply:

"But please consider that, download speeds are affected by your PC performance,
your access line, local network capacity, congestion on connections to remote
networks, remote networks, the remote server's access line and the server
performance. The performance of international servers will also affect download
speeds. Also, the fact that we are situated in South Africa means that
international bandwidth is purchased at a premium and is not unlimited."

These two tests within a couple of minutes on the same PC.
    Afrihost and doBroadbandWhatever, both 4Meg.
Ashford is in UK, near a private server I use.

What I say is that the only difference during these tests is the ISP.
This is not a fluke result, I have seen several similar outcomes over the last weeks, maybe a month.
    Others deliver. TI does not.
Except maybe when it comes to excuses and obfuscation.

Yup,i have absolutely no problems with any other ISP. But 3 months of telkom uncapped and i have had problems at least 3 weeks out of every month. DNS issues, speed issues, or not working at all. Plus every tracert to any international site i get this.

    Tracing route to www.l.google.com [173.194.34.112]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.0.0.2
    2 20 ms 23 ms 22 ms dsl-247-7-01.telkomadsl.co.za [41.247.7.1]
    3 39 ms 23 ms 24 ms ndnn-ip-cat-1-vlan-913.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.43.33.150]
    4 * * * Request timed out.
    5 * * * Request timed out.
    6 34 ms 37 ms 38 ms 196.43.48.158

Hop 4 and 5 always timeout. I think it's been like this for 3 months.
