I have plenty of new spiders and they are beautiful! I have been planning a post here, but I just need to find the time to take some nice pics of my babies.

I now have 32 different species and 56 spiders.

Wow that's a fairly impressive collection. I want to get a few new ones myself. Looking for a Fire Leg, Green bottle blue, Venezuelan suntiger and Socotra Island Blue Baboon ...

    Really becomes addictive

EDIT: note that when I call your collection "fairly impressive" its just my own jealousy that prevents me from saying how awesome such a huge collection must be (seeing that I only have one ATM)
May the wors be with you

lol, 90% of my collection are still slings. There are still a few that I am looking for tho, one being the M. balfouri (Socotra Island blue baboon) and another being E. cyanognathus (Blue Fang). Both have been bred recently so its just a matter of time.

That said, my collection is small. Some of the people I have come into contact with have hundreds of spiders. On breeder I visited has thousands!

Where are these breeders? I would really like to do a lot more shopping but have an issue with the delivery method after shopping online and the local pet shops are just silly! Ive seen a fairly big Bluefang for 1400, not mature, not sexed....

Most of the guys are online, The shipping is not too much of an issue. I have ordered quite alot of my stuff online from various places and the spiders have always been fine. The little versicolor I got in the mail last month just molted.

Some nice spiders here : http://tarantulas.co.za/shop/tarantu...s/4-tarantulas or here too, www.tarantulacafe.co.za, otherwise you can find some awesome breeders and sellers here http://tarantulas.co.za/forum/breedersellerpetshop.

There is also a shop in Birchleigh, kempton park if you prefer to have a walk in experience. Just remember that having an actual shop is a large expense so the spiders will always be a little more expensive.

    Few questions:
do you keep them separately when they're so small?
how long do they take to grow full size?
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Yea, 90% of all your spiders you keep separate otherwise they will eat each other. There are quite a few communal spiders too, the M. balfouri being one of them. You can keep a whole lot of these guys together and they wont eat each other.

They grow at different speeds mostly. It can be between 3 and 5 years. Sometimes longer. The males will not live for too much longer after they reach maturity, between 6 and 18 months. The females on average can live for another 10 to 15 years.
Those are just ballpark numbers, it changes wildly from species to species.

Ok so here is a little update on the whole thing. I took some photo's today but with the cold most of the spiders are huddled away.

This is my new spider shelf.

My collection looks tiny in there now, lol.

Here are some new pics of some spiders Ive posted before:

Acanthoscurria geniculata - Giant White Knee

Two months and 1 molt done, she should be due for another molt any day now.

Acanthoscurria brocklehursti - Brazilian Black and White.

2 months and 2 molts later:

    Cyclosternum fasciatum - Tiger Rump

    Remember this little guy?

two months and a molt later:

    Now for some new ones:

Chromatopelma Cyanopubesence - Green Bottle Blue
Mine is about 15mm right now. They grow to about 15cm.

    Adult looks like this

    Aviculara versicolor - Antilles pinktoe

Pretty spider to have as a sling since its blue. Most slings are a brownish colour. They also grow to about 15cm, mine is about 8mm right now.

Naa, I post a pic of my S. calceatum (Featherleg baboon spider) webbing. You cant even see the ground in the tank. Or the spider for that matter. She is very skittish, if I touch her tank she dives into that stuff.

Which is why spiders like aquarium fish can't be classified as pets. They are just ornamental.

    Fish are prettier though.
